Where can I get a flash hider/muzzle brake for the 15-22???

Put the flash hider on the 15-22 using the Scherer adapter. Didn't look too bad at all. Today I took the gun to the range and shot it. After about 50 rounds the guy next to me said "your flash hider is on the ground in front of your shooting bench". It was indeed off the gun, no damage to the adapter or flash hider. I hadn't used Loctite on the set screws and they likely worked loose. After cleaning the gun when i got home I put it back on, this time used blue Loctite on the set screws. We'll see if it stays.

Just leaving it off the gun is not an option since the set screws have marked the barrel a bit. I'm satisfied with the way it looks but will eventually try to find a local 'smith to thread the barrel.

Will try to get some pictures of the gun with the flash hider on it in the next few days.

How much can i expect to pay to have the barrel threaded by a gunsmith. I don't want to get ripped off

Prices for this service are all over the place. I have seen anywhere from $35 to $100.

there is an add for threading at the top of the 15-22 section in a sticky... you need to just send your upper nothing else.. no need to remove the barrel

Check out Belt-Fed's post. I sent him my barrel to be threaded. $50 plus shipping. I also ordered a flashhider ($30) from him. It should be here tomorrow. I will post some pics.

I'm envious. We Kalifornians can't even consider what you are talking about.

You need to read your state laws alittle better I'm pretty sure 22s are exempt my friend

Why would that be? As long as the barrel is 16 inches or more you can thread it all you want, even pick whatever flash hider you want, 'till the cows come home. The ONLY time you will ever get into trouble is if the barrel falls below 16 inches with the flash hider mounted then you've got an SBR and that's a no-no.

Unless you were talking about something else?

Belt Fed,

There are several problems in Kalifornia. The first is that the law is frequently vague, ambiguous, and even contradictory. The second is that most LEO's are not "gunnies" and may not apply the law correctly. The assault rifle law out here has effectively done away with flash hiders on centerfire rifles. Rifles chambered for the 22 LR, as you noted, have been exempted. The problem is running into an LEO that thinks flash hiders are illegal in general. And, any barrel that is threaded is viewed as silencer ready. So, the gunnies I hang around with won't even consider doing something that could result in the temporary confiscation of their "black" 22 rifles. The "compliant" 15-22 for Kalifornia doesn't have the option of a flash hider. Heck, we think it's great that our compliant model has the 6 position stock! I'm still envious of you guys just for being able to have 25 round mags!

Ladyfox, I stand corrected. Thanks for all the info. Several of your links support my point of vague, ambiguous, and contradictory laws. My comment on LEO and flash suppressors is based on personal experience - fortunately, my shooting buddy was also LEO. Didn't intend to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt (even though Kalifornia's legislature throws a lot of the first two at us).

I made my own.

Woah there! Methinks you really need to get a bit more familiar with how things work here in the PRK hon.

Here is a nice website that details all that out:

[ Mod edited post content ]

Friends do not let friends spread FUD and instead direct them to Calguns. :D

That may be what freinds do.... here is what mods do-

Methinks you really need to get a bit more familiar with S&W Forum Rules

Rule #8 Do not advertise or promote other internet forums without prior permission.

Hey, no worries just wished to point you in the right direction and was glad I was able to help. Just remember I incurred the wrath of the mods on your behalf. ;)

Ooops.

Somehow I missed that in the forum rules. My apologies.

I guess my question directly to you would be how would be best to direct people who have questions or are misinformed regarding firearms questions in the PRK? Unfortunatly, the only 100% source for a LOT of the off-list stuff or even this muzzle brake issue are via the source I listed who also happens to be a non-profit agency fighting for 2A rights in the PRK.

Last thing I wish to have happen is for someone to start down a legal path that may either deny themselves something that they are legally able to obtain or worse get them into trouble.

best advise i can give is not to read the forums for this info.. just move to TN where everyone has a gun and dont care to use it to pretect themselves or their neighbors:D.. just out of curiosity.. how many of your neighbors do you know and how far in each direction is that..

Im not being a smart butt, id really like to know

*squints and looks real hard*

You sure? You mods are pretty sneaky when setting someone up as a banstick dummy when you get bored. :D

*laughs* Well, that's one way to take care of the issue 'course I'm looking at Georgia myself since it's closer to where my daddy lives up in South Carolina AND it has the bonus of being a NFA-friendly state. :D

*sigh* I swear I never really knew what I was leaving when I moved here from TX back in the early 90's to find work. About the only thing I do not miss are the tree roaches, humidity, and mosquitoes. :p
