Sigma 9mm or .40 caliber?

9mm or .40S&W?
Coke or Pepsi?
Ford or Chevy?

Hmm, coincidence? I'm beginning to wonder... :D

I find the .40 to be a very controllable round in the Sigma platform. Besides cost, I've never seen anything that the 9mm will do that the .40 S&W can't do better.

I like my .40 had 9mm glocks the .40 is more powerful just as easy to handle. but it your choice and only my opinion.

9mm or .45,,,, the .40 is ,,, well,,, a kind of ,,, sort-a ,,, asterd round. The .40 makes sense to me as a pistol round in a light fold up carbine. But not in a pistol. JMO.....

Big fan of .40, so there's my vote.

I was going back and forth between 9mm and .40, and decided to go with the .40. Around here, a 50 round box of target .40s costs $2 - $3 more than a similar box of 9mm. Since cost was the main thing pulling me to 9mm, I went with .40 which I like more in general. I also have better luck finding .40s than I do finding 9mms.

I chose the .40 because my wife has 9mm guns. Sometimes, one round is harder to find than the other so hopefully, we can always find one or the other.

Right now we can get both at WallyWorld but that's not always true. Sometimes 9s are more plentiful, other times it's the 40s.

Of course, she took everything out of the safe the other day and took a picture. Dadburn it, she has one more than I do. She claims hers are smaller than mine but I don't remember her saying anything in the past about size being important (hey, wait a minute. . .)

Anyway, I'm thinking maybe a .45 1911, or a .44 Mag revolver is in my future, dontcha know?

.40 S&W

- The wife and I both liked it.
- Heavier bullets = More ft/lbs out the muzzle = more stopping power.
- Still a controllable recoil.
- One caliber to worry about (I reload).

She shoots a Taurus Millenium Pro PT140; I shoot SIGMA SW40VE.

My wife has 9mm guns, I have .40's because that is the way we like it. Loaded with JHP's, I am confident that any of the guns we pick up will be able to give a BG a very bad day.

blast, I dont know why you want to call the .40 an offspring of unmarried parents... maybe do a bit more research on it? Just because it's not a 10mm doesnt mean it isnt the most suitable round for defense...

And stop using up all the commas dude...

I vote for RC cola & an Oldsmobile rocket. You cant go wrong with any Sigma for SD/HD carry. Both will poke holes in the paper at the range, price diff. between the two is not really a big deal. I would not want to be on the working end of either caliber, they both hurt really bad. BUT...if the bad guy has the most popular handgun in the world..9mm, Im gonna reach for my .40!;)

I have a .40, and just passed the 1200 round mark last weekend. No FT anything!I made the right choice in the .40. She takes care of me and i take care of her

The G23 is just a smidge shorter and weights 3 oz less. Would that account for more snap than the Sigma?

I already own a 40ve. My question couldn't you buy a 9ve barrel and use it in a 40ve slide? This way you could use 9mm ammo as well as .40 ammo. s inexpensive way to have both. since the 9 is a smaller o.d. it should fit in the 40ve slide

I don't think so.

no because the mags are different. The 9mm will not stay in the frame, it is a smidge thinner and the mag release won't hold. At least on the first gen like mine. You can always modify a 9mm barrel to shoot 357 sig

I'll chime in here since I own both. The .40 S&W has a lot going for it; a heavier bullet than the 9mm can throw and more velocity and flatter trajectory than the .45 can achieve. It penetrates windshield glass and vehicle doors better than either the 9mm or .45. You get 14 or 15 rounds in the mag vs. 8 to 10 rounds for a .45. For me, the .40 is the best of both the 9mm and the .45 in one package.

Just my $.02. YOMV.
