4506 Grip Replacement

My 4506 has some pretty beat up factory plastic grips that I'd like replace with new ones. Can anyone tell me if the 4506 grips and 1006 grips are the same size / interchangeble?

1006 grips

Midway USA usually has 10XX series grips in stock, both straight and curved. Very reasonable price too.

Hogue also has 3rd gen. grips available in both wood and rubber. I prefer Hogue rubber to the S&W plastic, but it is mostly a case of hand size..

Is the Hogue rubber grip larger than the original plastic grip?

The Hogue rubber is noticeably thicker than the stock grips.

The Hogue grips are a bit thicker than the Smith & Wesson plastic grips BUT in a single stack gun such as the 3913, 4506 or 1006 (and their variants) the grip is not too wide and the gripability and recoil absorption is excellent. The rubber finish is kind of tacky in the hand which is great if your hands are at all moist to the touch and in the .45 and 10mm guns the grips help to tame the recoil.

I originally put on a set of Hogue grips on my 6450 (transitional gun between 645 2nd generation and 4506 3rd generation) and liked them so much I bought a set for my 3914 and my 4516. I've tried them on a double stack gun like my 4046 and they were a bit too wide for my small hands. I can still shoot them but they are wider than what I would like if on anything more than a single stack frame.

I have a 4505 and would like the hogue rubber grips on it and I am not sure what the difference is between the straight or curved grips. Will they both fit?

The only difference between the factory straight and curved back grips is that external shape. On the inside they are identical and fit the frame the same way.

Firecaptain beat me to it......they come in both a straight and curved back strap. I have had both for many years for my 4506 and occasionally I switch them out for the feel of a 'new' gun. The change is easy and can be done without fear of damaging the finish or grip. Try both if you are of a mind.
