I'm a new guy to this forum, usually lurking in the background, but recently (last night) I purchased a Model 15-4 Combat Masterpiece, and like a new father, I'm busting out with pride. This is my first Model 15, and I think I did pretty good, considering I paid $450.00 for it. From the serial number it appears to have a d.o.b. of 1980. It came with the original box & paper work.

Just brought it back from the range and my first 50 rounds through it. Like so many say about their Model 15's, it does shoot better than me. The guy I purchased it from told me that he probably put 18 rounds through it in the past 5 years, so now I know of a grand total of 68 rounds have been fired thought it; I really don't think many more really have!

Just wanted to share with a community of folks who appreciate a fine pistol!

You did good. The M15 is one of my favorites. I think you'll enjoy it.
Welcome to the forum.

That's a nice 15!

Regarding boxes: if I retained the boxes of all the firearms purchased over thirty years, I'd have to rent a storage unit for 'em! I have kept a few, especially Performance Center display and carry cases. I rarely keep cardboard.

I always retain instruction manuals and special information, like the headspace notes of my M1As from Springfiled Armory. When I pass things to the kids, they also receive the manuals.

Welcome and that's a great looking model 15. I consider them the best shooting 38 special. I also consider them to be the father of the famous model 19 combat magnum.

Enjoy you new model 15,

IMHO, to match the accuracy potential of those model 14s/15s/67s out of the box, it takes a custom-tuned match pistol costing at least three to four times as much. Note that I wrote "to match" not "to exceed". The latter is probably next to impossible, from what I saw.

A model 67 is my favourite carry/self-defense gun.

What you have been blessed with is what my first S&W is.
A factory fired 15-4 in the box.
It has a couple of hundred rounds through it now.

Your write up is better than I could have done.
It mirrors my own experience.

I obtained mine in April of 2006. DOM of 1978.

You did good on your purchase. They are great guns for sure, and yours looks very nice.

I just picked up this old 15-3 a week or so back, and as expected, it shoots great. This one shipped in May of '69-

I picked my 15-3 up years ago. It is a cop trade in marked "DPS 3909" SN 3K76281 with Rogers grips.

Anyone know what the DPS stands for or what year the gun was made?
