Uh-ooh Is S&W replacing the sigma? look!

I think they are finally giving in to the bashers after all this time.

They are trying to make it look like an M&P. This is a marketing thing. I'm anxious to see what the website will say about this gun. I think it's pretty sneeky of them to put it out to a distributor before it comes out on the website.

Can't wait to read Guns & Ammo! They will go all out to convince us that it's not a sigma.

The price will, I repeat will, be higher than the sigma's price.

I'll bet it even comes with a key for added convenience (any bets?).

I have allot of battle scars from defending the sigma. Maybe I'll just go back to shooting my SA Rugers.

For me, the jury is out. I have to think about this for a while.

2.1 oz. lighter, open rail for accessories, tritium front sight. Looks like they've been listening to Sigma owner's wish lists. I wonder if the trigger pull will be the same?

Also, does it look like you'd be able to change the back grip configuration?

Looks like interchangeable back straps too +++. If it were priced about the same as a sigma, I'd be all over it.

I've read that the Sigma series is the #1 seller @ S&W-- I doubt the SD Series is a replacement, but rather an "addition". May appeal to both Sigma and M&P fans . . . priced in the middle of those two . . .

Call me crazy but I love the SIGMA series and this updated version of it looks even nicer!! I'd buy one in a heartbeat to go with my M&P's!!

If only I could trade up, send in my 9ve and get one of these bad boys. Or even find an older sigma and trade. Maybe, just maybe, they will send me a SD9 back instead of my 9ve that's at S&W for repairs.

It may be replacing the SW99 series if so it will be about $400. Which wouldn't be bad at all and would be priced closed to the Springfield XD.

That was my thinking exactly. I would be willing to bet that they lightened the trigger too since that was one of the general issues that people complain about (if it's valid or not). It's good to see that S&W is getting out into the market aggressively again. I wonder how big this forum is going to be in say 5 years or so.

Looks like a tweener to me, probably $400. range. Seems dumb to take some sales away from the Sigma and some from the M&P. I don't follow the logic.

I haven't read too much about the SW99 (or SW990?). How were these guns? Still being made? I saw a very nice condition used SW99, .40 cal for $325 OTD last week. If I didn't just get my new SW40VE, I may have picked that one up...3 mags too.

Maybe they are going to discontinue the SW9VE series. Perhaps the long running mag or money promotions were to clear out inventory. Plus there are always people who will buy the new SD9 either way, especially if it uses the same mags as the SW9VE.

Another possibility is the Ford-Lincoln-Mercury system. Flood the market with S&W poly frame pistols in various guises and increase your chances of selling a Smith.

The sw99 was a nice gun. Definitely on the heavy side of polymer framed pistols. Not bad just not wonderful. Hands down the M&P is 100 times nicer. And the SW99 is about the same as the sigma for me. Just a little better if any. But, not worth the price difference.

The mags look to be completely different, however I have seen mags look different yet fit other weapons. May be just a different base plate.

Just for the fun of it.
