Georgia Arms 44 Magnum ammo?

One is loaded in new brass, the other in used brass. In my experience, GA ammo, both the new and factory reloads, is fine stuff.

I just ordered the 100 pk of this round, in SWC, and bought the NEW stuff. Didn't know there was a once-fired option, but for a $4 difference, I'll take the new brass. I'll give it a few words in this forum when it arrives, if anyone cares. I'm hoping it's an ~1000 fps load.

I'll review the GA load.

I heard that S&W advised against 300 gr bullets in the 29 family, but as I say -- I 'heard.' As I understand it, they built the 29 originally around a 250 SWC, and published energy numbers for that bullet weight seem plenty adequate, depending on velocity; anywhere from 450 ft lbs on up to nearly 900 if it's really humming. That's like getting hit with half of a 1969 T-Bird. : )

I hear frontal area is also a factor. The more the front-end approaches a wadcutter shape, the better. A hockey puck at 100 fps would probably end a fight, at least for a while.

I'm going to call Georgia Arms tomorrow just to get the numbers on their 44 loads. I am just plain curious now :)

Prism I look forward to your review.

Georgia Arms emailed me to say that the 240 gr SWC .44 mag load is traveling at 1100 fps. Except for whatever leading issues this may raise, that's a pretty ideal setup. I have some lead removing cloth that works pretty well, but I'll watch and see what the ammo produces in my 629.

Test to follow arrival of said ammunition. : )
