To add:

I also sometimes carry a PF9. I carry a spare mag also.

Just my opinion which may not be worth much. But I consider anyone foolish to simply rely on 5 or 8 rounds.

Being prepared means being prepared for ANY situation. Not just what you think might happen or what statistics show.

It Depends. If primary is a J frame it's 5 plus a 6 round speed strip. If it's a K/L frame it's 6 plus a 6 round speed strip. If it's one of my pony DS's it's 6 plus 6 in the speed strip. The speed strip "Lives" behind my cell phone in a two compartment ballistic nylon phone holster. During the cooler/cold months I carry a Kimber Compact Aluminum 45 ACP OWB under a jacket plus an 8 round Wilson as a reload. My truck gun is a block 19 with two spare mags from a block 17 tucked in the door pocket.

Class III

When I carry my Model 60 or 4" 10-10 I also carry two 6 round speed strips. When I carry my Makarov, one extra magazine, since I only have one extra right now.

I found that Lee Dungarees have two pockets on them that make perfect sized and secure storage spots for Speed Strips or a Makarov magazine.

If just the 442, the 5 in the gun and 6 more in an MTM ammo wallet. If the 4" .357, 6 in the gun and 6 in a 2x2x2 De Santis pouch. Whatever it is, always a full reload. For work it used to be a double Safariland split six speedloader carrier with Comp II speedloaders, but the carrier wore out and is out of production now. It was a nice CCW arrangement for speedloaders.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to vote truthfully as I carry an FN Herstal 5.7x28 with a 30rd mag and a spare 20 rounder. Expand your horizons Dudes

I always carry at least one reload wheter that's a 5/6 speed loader or another 8/15 rd mag. How and where I'm carrying will also dictate how much. At home loungeing around, 442 in pocket with an extra speed loader. Down range, cocked and locked M1911A1 or M9 with either 105/106 rds carried on belt (then there's the M4 or M14 mags).

Have 105 rds of .45 ball on belt.

Off on a quick roadie in just a bit and carrying my M60 with a speed strip (all 6 rounds) in my pocket and a drop pouch on my belt with 6 more. Both vehicles have a speedloader in the center console.

Will be in, and about, Washington, DC, and am confident in my preparedness.

Be safe.

Note: The drop pouch is very inconspicuous...very.

Robar Glock 26 13rds stoked and a spare 12 rd mag Federal 147Grain HST 9mm.

I carry a model 642 with 1 speed strip loaded with 5 rounds for 10 total. The 5 in the revolver are to get me out of a tight spot. The speed strip is so I am ready if more trouble shows up before I can leave. I have noticed that I could say I carry 1000 rounds of ammo and someone would point out what would happen if I was assaulted by 1001 bad guys.

Hmm, depends....., how many friends are present and what size is my flask...........? (that will determine the # of rounds) bum,bum......Pow!!! :)

Am appreciating the advice as I am fairly new to concealed carry. I think I will up my number of cartridges to make two full loads in either gun I might carry. I've already ordered a second magazine for the PF9 and will get a speed loader or similar device for the S&W 637.

Thanks!

The amount I carry is dependant on the firearm I am carrying. Semi-auto, it's magazine plus one in chamber and one spare mag. Could be 15, 24, 30 or 34. If I am carrying a snubbie, then it's 15.

Another option is speed strips.
