Tell me about the 3914.

The good: Possibly the most reliable, accurate and easily concealed single stack 9mm made......by anyone.

The bad: It is no longer in production.

The ugly:?????? You must be thinking of the M&P. The 3914 is a good looking pistol. ;) Regards 18DAI.

Just a blued 3913? More like; Woo Hoo a blued 3913!

18DAI covered the Good and Bad nicely. The Ugly actually belongs to the Austrian wonder pistol.

I just bought a 3914TSW used that was hardly shot. Its a really nice gun. Nicely finished and outstanding NOVAK three dot fixed sights. The only difference between the TSW and the regular 3914 is the TSW has a rail.

Its reliable with any kind of ammo. Extremely accurate for a small light gun too - shoots very close to point of aim with 115, 124 and 147 grain ammo. Shot groups are also very tight for this size/weight of gun.

The stock DA trigger pull in mine was smooth as silk but very heavy and the SA pull was about 7lb. I replaced the trigger reset and hammer springs with Wolf reduced power springs of 2.5 and 17 lb respectively. These made the DA pull really nice but the SA pull was still at 6 lb so I did some work on the hammer and sear and got it down to about 4.5lb. with no safety or functional issues. I also replaced the stock grips with Hogue rubber ones because the stock ones were a bit too hard and slippery

I plan to use this gun in pocket pistol matches at local clubs with 9 round Model 952 magazines and it should be perfect for that. Its also a really good light carry gun in an IWB holster.

Overall I would recommend this gun for CC or even just plinking any day.

And another fan of the 3914 checks in. I carry mine as my LEOSA carry pistol every day. I have been slowly doing a full-house tune up on it as time allows. Mine is an absolute tack driver with the Novaks and Speer Gold Dot +Ps in 124 gn. You wouldn't believe how little I paid for it and 8 S&W magazines on the FTF used gun market. .......... Big Cholla

Actually that is not completely true. There were several small internal changes to increase reliability and accuracy, a stronger dust cover and the rail. Although I often wonder how you improve upon the accuracy and reliability of a S&W 3rd Gen. That's like improving on the majestic beauty of the Grand Canyon. :D

I carried a 3914 off duty for years (as a companion to my custom S&W 915 which I carried on duty). I never felt under gunned and routinely shot perfect scores at qualification.

Hi I have the opportunity to buy a 3914 from a gun store in ca in good condition for $450. Is this a fair price. Any help will be appreciated.

I've bought several 3rd gens in the past year. I paid as low as $350 for a really nice square trigger guard 6906. I found a NIB 6904 for $450, and a repatriated 3953 for $370. I recently paid $465 for a 3913 and $500 for a LNIB 3906. Overall, I'd say 3rd gen prices are increasing, especially for certain models. Newer versions, such as TSWs and tacticals bring more money. These are very impressive firearms and once you have experience their quality and accuracy, you'll wonder why anyone would want an M&P (sold mine) or a Glock....

I had one and traded it for something else. While I am glad I have what I traded for, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish I still had the 3914. Very nice pistols.

Another +1 on this post, especially the first sentence. I have yet to see any company match the 3913 series when it comes to an ideal concealed carry pistol.

another plus 1...

Ugly? There is no ugly with a 3914...I sold my 3913, but I kept my 3914. Its accuracy is nothing short of surprising.
and to the member asking about paying $450 for a 3914, if it is in good shape, I wouldn't quibble too long. Not a steal, but you wouldn't be getting taken either, IMHO....

I think you are confused. I was doing a +1 on his first sentence and also, when he put "Ugly?", he wasn't saying the 3914 is ugly.

Assume its just a blued 3913 but never seen one discussed before. Can someone give me the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly :)
I bought a S&W 3914TSW last fall NIB and you could never get me to sell it:DGreat pistol and a tack driver.I have a few more 3rd gen. S&W,s CS9,5906,3913 all are quality made IMHO.

Understood and agreed, fully, I was referring to the original 'good, bad, and ugly' reference, there is no ugly.
I have a couple of other 3rd gen single stack 9's, including a 3906, and I think the 3914 may rule the roost.

Did you have the rail removed or were you lucky enough to get one of the few produced with out the rail? Mine has a rail which will never see a light, laser or any thing else so I'm looking at removal options.

BTW, My 3914 TSW is the only blued handgun I own and it is by far my favorite and far and away the prettiest.

Yeah, I sent it to S&W and had them remove the rail and add a spurred hammer. They didn't charge me for the rail removal but I don't know if that is because they were doing other work on it or if they offer that for all TSW models for free. I wish there were a way to grind down the rivets they put in the holes that were left over though. Here's a pic I recently posted that shows the hammer.

I really like the hammer idea, how long did they the whole operation take?
