Tell me about the 3914.

well to sum up the 3914/3913 in one word awesome! The 3914 I have has been able to digest everything with out a hiccup. It really likes the heavyweight subsonics. For 450.00 Is it clean? well let me ask this how many have you seen?

Yeah, I sent it to S&W and had them remove the rail and add a spurred hammer. They didn't charge me for the rail removal but I don't know if that is because they were doing other work on it or if they offer that for all TSW models for free. I wish there were a way to grind down the rivets they put in the holes that were left over though. Here's a pic I recently posted that shows the hammer.

That's weird. S&W, via e-mail, told me they would not remove the rail. And that if I had another gunsmith do the job, it may void the warranty.

I hate the rail on my 3914TSW. Just trying to decide if I'm going to sell the gun or have a gunsmith remove the rail. I don't even like the rivets that remain after the rail removal, although it's a nice improvement.

Great find and an awesome pistol!

I only like one gun better than the 3914. That would be the 4014.

Everybody that sees mine wants to know- "what is it?" and "where can I get one?"

I've always owned and loved 3rd gens, starting with the iconic 5906. But recently I've come to like the blued/blackened versions even more. So it's of course good and necessary to have a few of each!

Now if S&W would just start making some 4566's in Melonite finish available to the public, as well as some new runs of 3913's and 4014's in Melonite and maybe a run of scandium framed melonite 4040's, ...................

LH2 I wouldn't bother with S&W. I'd just take it to a local smith and have him drill the rivets. Thats what I did with all my TSW pistols.

As far as the warranty being voided, I wouldn't worry about that either. In over 30 years I've yet to have a third generation pistol break to where I needed the warranty.....then again.....my newest S&W's are fifteen years old! ;) Good luck! Regards 18DAI

I completely agree about the 4566TSW models in melonite. If they had these with standard decock/safe, I woudn't hesitate to buy one even at a premium price. There were a few melonite 4566 models floating around here not too long ago but they were decock only versions I believe.
