Colt Diamondback

I really dont know where to post this question, but here it is. What is a Colt Diamondback 2 or 2 1/2" .38 Special with no box or papers, has original Colt wood grips, and is about 95%? Any help would be helpful. Thanks

there's one sitting in my dealer's display case right now that fits that description.

He's asking $850. It's been there close to a year now.

Frankly it looks like he's asking too much.

At 95%, I would put it at about $900-$1000 only 'cause it's a 2 1/2"er.

Great guns but way overpriced IMHO. People will pay these prices but to my way of thinking you can get a similar Smith for about half that and come out way ahead.

But, 90% of Smiths in existance are not nearly as collectable as Diamondbacks. Remember they haven't made any DBs for 25 years and they will never be made again. Smiths continue to me made all the time in much larger quantities. Therein lies the price difference.

Back in the late 60's the Diamondback was very popular in St. Louis PD....Looked like a mini Python. However it wasn't as smooth as a Python. One caution...You must let the trigger all the way off, firing double action or the cylinder or better yet the action will freeze up. It just needs to be let off completely...Neat little revolver. Note if it freezes just let trigger out and it will function flawlessly..

I had a 6" Diamond Back that I bought about 25 yrs ago at the Tulsa gunshow for 275 bucks. It was like new and a beautiful gun, but I didn't like the feel of the grips so I ordered some Herrett Shooting Star grips. It was very accurate and had a nice single action pull but I realized real quickly that I liked Smiths a lot better, so I traded it for a scoped Ruger .270 and haven't owned a Colt revolver since.
