I own a Argentine M1927 Sistema Colt(1911A1)..and the Springfield Armory 1911A1 'Milspec'...
the M1927 is the real deal..pretty much as the US guv liked it's 1911 pistols...The 'Milspec' has the modern ejection port, throated barrel, and beveled magwell, bigger sights...shoots hollowpoints great.
If you will just shoot ball ammo..the plain old 1911A1(like the Sistema Colt) is all you need. The Springer 'Milspec' is much the same..just a few more mods to make it more compatable with hollowpoint ammo..and modern shooting principals.
Other stuff..like beavertail grip safetys, ambi-manual safetys, rails, extended/beveled magwells, etc are just tacticool foo-foo.
I'm seriously thinking on buying a Remington 1911 R1..which has all the same features my Springer 'Milspec' has..plus a tiny notch in the chamber as a loaded chamber indicator my older Springer does not include.
Most newer made standard 1911 pistols have the all the items I mentioned Springfield Armory Milspec has. A few 1911 models are true 'GI'..much like the old Sistema Colt M1927.
You can buy a factory 1911 from Springfield Armory or Kimber..or S&W..or Sig, etc with up-graded features/models as you see fit.
If you just want a base gun..the Budget Phillipenes made verssions are enjoying an excellent rep and cost a couple hundred less than any Rem, Springfield..and several hundred less than a Kimber/Les Baer/Wilson etc
The world is your oyster with 1911 pistols!
