I am looking at purchasing a used 629-4 S&W performance centre marked serial #002 and also marked Performance center Classic Series. It looks just like a Magna Classic and has the same wooden grips and set of 7 interchangable sights.

I cannot find information on this type of gun anywhere on the internet, nothing on S & W site and nothing in past auctions that I searched.

I hope I am ok to post a link to some pictures I put on photo bucket so people could see the firearm here. I have also one picture of the stainless Magna Classic I purchased for comparison.

Any information as to age, who these were made for, how many in series, and any idea of a fair price for purchase would be much appreciated as I am looking at picking it up. They are asking $1,150 but I feel that is higher than I want to spend.

That is only the second one I have seen for sale. Look like nice guns, I think made in the early 90's. A serial number would help date the gun. Personally, I don't think the price is too far off, considering what I have seen listed elsewhere for standard guns. It depends on how much you want it.

I could not find any mention of that particular version anywhere in the 3rd edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. They list the 629-4 Carry Comp and the 629-4 Lew Horton Performance Center version which has a 6.5" barrel with a removable muzzle brake and replaceable end cap. You might want to contact Roy Jinks at S&W.

Heck of a deal!

Ditto to Nightowl comment, if PC that justifies the price I'd jump on it. it's Non MIM no IL... yeah do it!

Performance Center Model 29

well I grabbed this unit and was able to negotiate the price down to $1,050 plus shipping, think I did pretty good.

Will keep one to shoot and one to collect at this time. \\\\\\is there any way to contact Roy Jinks without a full reference letter and the 50.00 appraisal fee?
