Open Carry

But it's amusing anyways. ;)

Well, it was at one time until one poster decided to shout down the opposition. I don't see one thing in this thread that is going to change minds one way or the other. OC, CC, or DC (Don't Carry) it's up to you. I CCL (Couldn't Care Less) :)

Well, when your "argument" can't even stand a cursory level of scrutiny, what can you expect?

There is no need for anyone to change their minds. Folks are free to act as they wish, within the law of course. That said, there is never a reason for people on either side of an issue to make up lies or spread disinformation in an attempt to prop up their argument.

We have a very big Open Carry crowd here in Wisconsin. They were very instrumental in getting our brand new concealed carry bill passed and signed. I do support Open Carry.

We have very heated discussion about this on our concealed carry forum. While I appreciate all the hard work they did to promote concealed carry in Wisconsin, Open Carry would not be one of my options for many reasons.

Open carry talks always provkes heated discussions.

But since you brought it up, would you mind giving those many reasons for OC not being one of your carry options.

I live in the inner city of Milwaukee. Having a weapon visible would be like having cash hanging out of my pocket. It would make me a target.

I don't want anyone to know I have a weapon until I draw and fire. I want the element of surprise.

Ok, I understand and respect your opinions.

Yet do you really feel there are people that would willingly attack an armed man that looks like he may know how to use the gun he carries?

Then have you thought about the perp has the advantage of suprise over you? You also have the added time it takes to draw a weapon from a concealed location. LEO carry openly due to many things but one of them being easy access to their weapon. Perps generally do not mess with LEO due to their easy access.

I know a few, not many, people that lost their concealed weapons due to armed robbery. Perps will search you for more than your wallet. They look for things like money clips watches, nice jewelry, knives and guns. Since they have a gun on you and there are likely two of them, you lose the wallet, money clip and possibly a gun.

It is still a personal choice as to how to carry. More people open carry than one thinks or sees. An OC does not mean a gun in a holster. It usually means a IWB holster with just a handle of a gun showing. This attracks less attention while leaving the firearm readily accessible.

I see both sides of this discussion. There are advantages to each. As I tell people when taking their statements about incidents, "there is no right or wrong answers but simply what happened in your opinion.' It is no right or wrong way of carrying but just what works best for the individual.

As Mr Lee once said:

"Every day I am on this board (which is about every day for the last 24 months!!), I am constantly amazed at how tight people get wound when talking to people they don't know and will never see, about issues that really won't be altered no matter how much they talk about them nor how many times they preach to the choir or scream at those with different viewpoints.
HEY!!- it ain't nuthin' but an internet forum!"

I'll take his advice, how about you(everyone)?

All this OC & CC (terms I'd never heard in 'Life Before Forums') all boils down to
the paticular social demographics of a given geographic location, i.e.,

What would fly here in Southern Kentucky wouldn't go in North Texas as to open carry.

Why, this little ville I'm camped outside of now, has hitch rails outside most business. (I'm not kiddin')

So, let's just say it's rural, it's down to earth, firearms are just a small part of life here...Like kitchen sinks, most folks got one.

When I was a strappin' sized boy, I was aloud to carry a holstered sidearm on the ranch while doing chores and such.
But, not to town. I was grown before I ever carried a sidearm openly in town...Also, was wearin' a badge to boot.

So, what I can see from were I standin', it really don't matter too awful much which way you want to go. ;)

When it's all boiled down & she's all said and done...
There's been a hell of alot more said that done!:D

*Jest like them young folks that wear those hat pins stuck in their jaws and other places. For the shock effect, etc...

I might pull my coat off in public to get the same reaction...Nah, jest kiddin' !!! ;)

Some of these open carry clowns , er , advocates , and forums make it sound like you are a closet anti-gun if you don't open carry 24-7. They think they can shock & awe anti-gun people into accepting firearms.

I used to believe in concealed carry only, but lately I "came out" and tried open carry. I like it. I'm the guy on the left.

I don't really think to many open carry advocates are very concerned with "anti-gun people". In fact, I don't know why any gun owner would be. Attempting to change the minds of the irrational with rational and reasonable ideas is, in and of itself, irrational.

But I digress. You'll likely find that many people who OC will say something similar about folks who carry concealed; that they think hiding their guns from the world will somehow make them more acceptable to anti-gunners.

In both cases, the person making those assumptions would be incorrect. It is only possible to influence people who haven't made up their minds, or who are open minded. Folks that are steadfast and dead set on a certain belief, aren't likely to give it up for anything you or I could ever tell or show them.

You're the guy on the left, and you expect us to believe it was open carry that you "came out" about? ............. :D
