10-5 box value

Beautiful gun, Sir. If I were looking for a box, I wouldn't want to pay more than 50 bucks, because while it would be cool to have a model and period correct one, it's still not the real McCoy. I have seen people asking for much higher prices though. If by some miracle your exact box and contents showed up on-line, what would it be worth to you?

Back in 1978 I bought a new 2 1/2" 66-1. I immediately tossed the box in the trash. Earlier this year I ran into the correct box from about a year later and I was able to get it, with all the paper, for $50. Like Dino44 said, finding THE box is a one in a million shot. I still have the 66-1 after all these years.

I’m not familiar enough with S&W to know which of the many boxes would be correct for this vintage. First knee jerk reaction was “can I get a box for $30 to $50?” So, didn’t want to post a WTB ad if they bring $200.

A really good looking revolver. My Model 10-5 is a 4-in, but my favorite barrel length for any medium frame revolver is 3-in.

I threw away many, if not most or all, of the boxes of new guns over the past 50 years of collecting (don't have a single one now). Most of my shooting buddies did too. Kind of like the factory stocks that a lot of times were immediately replaced with Pachmayr grips for better shooting control. Like many other things then, I never thought of the collectible values today. Now some people are asking stupidly high prices for both. Good luck with your search. Very nice gun BTW!
