Slide release

I have a new sd40 and I can't get the slide off. The release tabs won't cooperate with my old fingers. Any suggestions? I know there are extended ones available, but I still need to remove slide to replace.

Are you pulling the slide rearward slightly to release tension on the release tabs?

YES.

Maybe get some help to hold the slide back and let it ride forward while someone holds the tabs down? They don't give you much to hang on to for takedown, do they. 3rd gens take a strong person to hold the slide back while you press out the pin.
