Dream Variant of 15-22

Nordic Components has a 22WMR version of their NC22 upper coming out sometime this year. It's currently in beta testing. Their design is closer to a Ruger 10/22 than an AR but looks exactly like one.

The 15-22 design in .22WMR would also have to have the same upgrades that the .204 ruger would because of how different the ammunition is from .22LR.

You have no idea what you're saying, bringing the 204 Ruger into this discussion. 22 WMR is a rimfire cartridge operating around 25,000 psi. The 204 Ruger is a centerfire cartridge operating at over twice that pressure. There is zero comparison between them, and if S&W did make an M&P in 204 Ruger it would be an M&P 15, not a 15-22.

Alexander Arms currently offers a 17 HMR complete upper for around $725...they are currently developing a 22 WMR variant...

i suppose i am going to have to get a second line of credit at the bank LOL

I'd also love to see a .22WMR on the 15-22 frame, but figure S&W have
probably learned a lesson from SR, who discontinued their 10/22M after
only a few years.

The build materials, i.e. steel versus aluminum, drove up the cost to
produce, which more than likely hampered sales.

Selling just an upper for us existing users might be viable, eh? :D

I apologize for not being more specific. Yes, I competely understand the cartridge difference. I previously stated that I was stretching the topic too far. By no means do I think that .22WMR and .204 ruger are similar in anyway outside of the fact that they are bullets.

I've been thinking about this all day at work & dunno if it would be considered a "variant" but I want to shoot a M&P that has a 3 round burst :D Would be soo much fun. Weird that I've been thinking about it a lot today.

Would be cool to see a 15-22 modeled like the M&P 15 (short carbine handguard) and also have receivers made of aluminum.

I would love to see s&w make beta mags for our 15-22. That would be the coolest thing ever... Holding like 200-250. That would have a new meaning to the term "kick brass":D

Black Dog makes a 50 round drum.

I know i have seen them, almost bought one but ran out of $$$

But just saying, if you had a beta mag on a 22, you would never be left alone from people on the range and would have the sickest looking set up

The beta mag would be better than the 50 round drum when the zombies come...

But seriously,it would be cool. But drum magazines with rimfire ammunition can be extremely finnicky. I can't imagine the type of pain a $100 plus beta mag would cause when it doesn't load properly and cycle properly...

I actually really want a 5.56 version of the 15-22. What I mean is an all polymer bodied AR-15 with a polymer carbine length rail. Put that together with a lightweight M4 barrel profile and a micro-dot and you'd have a really high-speed stick. I don't know but does anyone know if polymer AR uppers and lowers exist?

PlumCrazy Firearms makes lowers, not sure of uppers.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on uppers, though. Scudds dream should come true in no time.

The .22LR is a small cartridge. I would not want to see a full polymer 5.56 just because it's a bigger cartridge. I've heard the 15-22 with the polymer build "bends" when you put a bipod on the front. Not sure if its really the polymer, but I wouldn't want to see the 5.56 in polymer

Just picked mine up and am Loving it.
Only thing id like as an Dream Accessory is a Magpul 22lr Pmag to fit.

Interesting comment about the .22 WMR, I own two Marlin 782 bolt action .22 WMR and love it.. Granted the cost is more for the .22 WMR but it is accurate as hell and very potent. I too would like to see the M&P chambered in .22 WMR. They are doing the .17 HMR so why not the .22 WMR. The pressures should be about the same. I think if S&W did this, it would be the last AR15 I add to my tactical rifles.. They may have to make the upper metal with the added pressures of this caliber, but I'm not an engineer so I'd like to see what S&W will do.. Keepem in the 10 ring..
