Just curious;

I'd like to hear from the SD owners with regard to how they are holding up out there in the real world? How's the reliability, accuracy etc?

How many rounds have you guys put through them?

How many members own them, any known problems, etc?

Happy shooting to all!

i have an sd9 my sights were way off when i got it but adjusted it need it professionally done but it is much better for now , the only problem ive have is it jammed a few times just had to make sure the rounds were in the clip right ( tap it to the back ) have about 300 throw it

My SD40 no problems 500 rounds through it.I love my SD.KID's SD did you clean it before you fired it?

I just bought one tonight at Academy Sports. I didn't really check it out carefully at the store, but when I got it home I noticed the slide rattles on the frame (for lack of a better description.) It isn't the magazine, because I had the magazine out of the pistol...when I grip it and shake it, the slide rattles on the frame, like it is loose. I can move the slide from side to side and back to front (and front to back) slightly, so it is loose. (This is when it is locked in battery. It doesn't matter if the striker is "cocked" or if the trigger has been pulled.)

Is this normal for the SD9? I also had a good bit of difficulty getting the slide off...and I have done this many times with Glocks. I did manage to get the slide off, and I couldn't really see anything that looked amiss...but then, I don't know what to look for. The rails seemed stable in the frame.

1000 rounds without a hitch.
The rattle just comes with the gun. It annoyed me at first, but I got used to it. I'd take this thing into battle before any other handgun.

So your SD 9 rattles (slide and frame, not the magazine) ?

about 500 rounds through my sd9 no issues was accurate right out of the box! carry mine almost daily!

SD40 and yes slide to frame rattles, magazines did till I replaced them with Sigma mags.

A year or so ago, I owned a SW9VE but traded it as part of a deal...I had several spare mags for it, and was thinking about getting an SD9 when they first came out. I called S&W and asked them, and they said they would not work...so I sold them. Now I find out from a number of members that they will indeed work....I wish I had just kept the mags and tired them (of course, at the time I had no idea when or if I would get an SD9.)

no i never cleaned it before firing , after read some of these post i might have problems with mine , the slide leans more to one side and i can move it side to side, and my mag doesn't go all the way up i can still see the chrome

Over 500 rounds through my SD9 and no trouble at all. It is very accurate but I am not. Not one problem that I can see.

They pop up everywhere and for cheap too!

Awesome SD40

I have over 600 rounds of Winchester white box 165 grain FMJ through my SD40. It (still) shoots like a dream, and has taken over as my #1 range gun! (Just don't tell my Glocks). The only way to describe the trigger pull is a steel ball bearing rolling down the crack of a car hood, smoooooooth, then when it gets to the end, WHAM! Suprise release and there's the bullet, exactly where I had aimed it. I constently view forums of people who tote this gun over that gun for carry, this caliber over that one. Personal choises are great, but I think the bottom line is/should be: carry the gun you shoot the best - and for me, thats my S&W SD40!

My SD9 also rattled, mags did not fit tight, slide loose on the frame rails and seemed to be less quality than expected. When the firing pin broke after around 200 rounds it went back to S&W.Customer service was great but I decided to sell it when it returned repaired. The sd line still needs work to be considered a good firearm. It was better than the Sigma line but could be a lot better.

Still going....

Make that 700 rounds of ammunition (I used a hundred rounds of Winchester 180 grain FMJ Ranger ammunition - which did not group as well as the Winchester 165 grain FMJ). Very nice gun to shoot, I can "stack" my Glock trigger to the point I am anticipating the gun going off and it effects my aim, not so with the SD40, it breaks as a suprise every time! Love that SD40!

SD9 for myself. I have not noticed any rattles. But now I will have to really listen for it. With only a couple hundred shots, I am fairly confident with shot placement at up to 10yds.
My rear sight was loose when I got it. I tightened the set screw and everything seems good.
I'm not exactly liking a gun with no safety, but I think it tends to make me personally, more aware, and ultimately safer.
Overall I like the gun a lot.
