M&P9L vs M&P9Pro

Hi all,

I'm contemplating getting a M&P for IPSC (I currently use a first-generation XD40, but I want a 9x19). Currently S&W doesn't have active representation here in Sweden - the company that just took over won't get their first batch until november, and even then I do not know how many M&P:s they have on order. But, since I'm just across the bridge from Denmark (where pistols must have a 5" barrel) I'm now considering getting a M&P9L or a M&P9Pro rather than a standard M&P9. The thing is they are both priced the same; 5980 DKK (approx. $1090, which actually is $90 less than what a standard M&P was priced at here in Sweden).

So the question is if there is any reason not to buy the 9Pro instead of the 9L?

Oh, btw extra magazines are 490 DKK (approx. $90 ).

If you like the sights, you might as well buy the Pro model. I had good luck with Apex parts in my 9L, but I am not sure it is worth the extra trouble to you to obtain them and install them. Comments I have heard about the trigger of the Pro have been favorable. Haven't heard a single negative report on that.

Too bad magazines are so pricey. That's almost as bad as trying to buy a P210 mag here in the states.

I've only had a chance to fondle the 9L as of yet, so I don't know how I'll like the fiber front sight of the Pro. New sights are easier to get than trigger parts though, so if the factory trigger job on the Pro-series is good enough then that would a definate check mark in the column for the Pro.

Too bad magazines are so pricey. That's almost as bad as trying to buy a P210 mag here in the states.

Actually, the P210 mags are probably more than that here.

Like the trigger, most people I have talked with seem to prefer the sights on the Pro model, too.

I might swap the rear sight, but then most likely to the 10-8 Performance sight. Please note that the 9L and 9Pro are priced the same here. That sight is just a mere $40; adding an Apex trigger is another $95 though. Is the Apex trigger worth it compared to the 9Pro trigger?

Depends on who you ask. I prefer the Pro 9 because the trigger is just fine for an old revolver shooter, and 124gr shoots to point of aim with factory sights. (POI and POA are within an inch from 10yds to 40yds)

There are two groups that always want the aftermarket products: the ones who want the trigger to be as like a competition 1911 as possible, and the ones who just have to have the aftermarket anything on everything.

The fixed rear sight of the 9PRO is very similar. If I wewre going with a fixed rear sight I would go with the 9PRO. I have no regrets. The 9PRO trigger was better than that on the 9L when I looked at them and was worth the $50 extra. I did not want the adjustable rear sight since I would have to get a much taller front sight which seemed unwieldy in terms of sight picture.

Tsquared, thank you for the clarification. I'm leaning towards the Pro as it makes sense to get the extras for the same price as a 9L - especially if there's no downside to the Pro compared to the 9L.
