CA is no doubt bad, but the correlation to the Brady bunch #1 score is faulty. What they rate as most sensible gun laws is not completely relative to the most egregious infringements on our 2nd amendment rights. I don't know which state is the worst. But it seems to me, the states (of which CA is not one) that require expiring permits to own guns is worse.
You could very well have a good point and I will admit that I'm not familiar enough with other states laws to have my decision based on that knowledge solely, so I found a very anti-gun group to see what there opinion was. If a group of anti-gunners like the Brady Campaign likes a state's gun laws, then it makes it harder for me to like that state's gun laws. I read their firearms laws rating criteria, I don't like the types of firearms laws they favor, and the Brady Campaign rated California's laws the best at meeting their rating criteria.
This is not an argument against what you posted or your opinion. Yours is every bit as valid. This is just an explanation of how "I" chose to answer the original question.
