The Hall of Shame, the Worst State for Gun Owners

CA is no doubt bad, but the correlation to the Brady bunch #1 score is faulty. What they rate as most sensible gun laws is not completely relative to the most egregious infringements on our 2nd amendment rights. I don't know which state is the worst. But it seems to me, the states (of which CA is not one) that require expiring permits to own guns is worse.

You could very well have a good point and I will admit that I'm not familiar enough with other states laws to have my decision based on that knowledge solely, so I found a very anti-gun group to see what there opinion was. If a group of anti-gunners like the Brady Campaign likes a state's gun laws, then it makes it harder for me to like that state's gun laws. I read their firearms laws rating criteria, I don't like the types of firearms laws they favor, and the Brady Campaign rated California's laws the best at meeting their rating criteria.

This is not an argument against what you posted or your opinion. Yours is every bit as valid. This is just an explanation of how "I" chose to answer the original question.

I think Illinois and New York are considered among the worst because their major cities, Chicago and NYC, are so horrible. The remainder of those states, while still pretty bad, don't compare with places like New Jersey, California, etc. Personally, I would never even consider living in any of them and avoid visiting to the extent possible.

I'm not sure that I see where CA is anywhere near as bad as NJ. Basically, no carry permits in NJ, no? True, CA & MA have The List, which seriously affects most purchasers of new handguns, but has much less affect on immigrants (at least MA does) and, I believe, C&R license holders. But for us old folks who already have a few guns, and C&Rs, MA is more like a nuisance. In CA, I believe that folks who live in better parts of the state CAN get carry permits, and that is certainly true in MA.

The problem with places like NY and Illinois is that they are dominated by NYC and Chicago. The rest of Illinois is relatively rural and conservative, but Chicago controls the state.

Yes, it's different by county, many jurisdictions in CA are CCW freindly. Those that are not, San Diego being the epitomy of unfriendly to CCW, have find themselves faced with a lawsuit by an aliance of the NRA, Ca Rifle & Pistol Assoc. and several other pro gun groups. Legal wins in CA continue to mount.

One thing I can say that Illinois has in favor over California, is that there is no 'one gun a month' rule in place.30 days between handgun purchases from an FFL is criminal infringement of the 2nd Amendment.

The 2nd Amendment forum is for dissemination of news on pending legislation, contact information on pending legislation, and relevant discussion of possible courses of action about gun law issues.

I let this run for awhile, too long, really, to see where it might go. Believe it or not, I actually hate to squelch you folks.
All that said, I am proud of you for not taking it more political than a few comments we deleted.

Try as I might, I am still failing to see how people rating states they don't live in has any significance. For that matter, I'm not sure anything would be accomplished by rating the states we do live in.

I can't seem to see anything but a chance to bash some states whose shortcomings are well known to the residents thereof.
That, and a chance to rant in general.

Use this area sparingly, and make it count, folks. It's not a second Lounge.
