M&P 9c I'm confused

I have read ALL the posts on the M&P 9c and some on the other M&P's as well. I am confused. I went to a gun shop and held/dry fired one and talked to the sales person but decided to do some more research. Then I was ready to get the 9c but as I continued to read there seams to be some things nagging at me.

People complain about the gritty trigger, the trigger function, the front sights, magazine popping out, failure to lock slide after last round. After saying all that, I still really like the gun a lot. It fit my hand very well. I just think there are a lot of ???.

I really want someone to talk me into it, but it seams like I would be re-building a gun around a frame and design. HELP...

I have a full size M&P9 and an M&P9C. After thousands of rounds, the only issue that I've experienced is that the white dot on the front sight of the full size pistol fell out. The trigger on the full size was a little gritty but smoothed out after awhile. the trigger on the 9C was just fine right out of the box.

I have a 40c , about 2500 rds thru it so far and I think that I have had 2 (TWO) malfunctions so far. I assume that I caused them by letting the thumb drag on the slide or maybe limp wrist. I have shot all types of ammo, alot of inexpensive bulk ammo. This is my carry gun and my favorite gun. Yes the front sight white dot fell out but that is all. This gun is hard to beat and for the cost , I don't know if you can beat it!!

Not sure where you are hearing about these problems, but I would expect you will receive a perfectly good functioning pistol.

I'm sure that a few of the M&P's, like everything else, may have a problem now and then. However, am I the only person who has ever noticed that some people are just happiest when they're complaining?

Not a single problem with mine and I recommend it to everyone! If there is a problem, S&W will take care of it for you.

I have the M&P 40c and could not be happier. Trigger is smooth and crisp and easy to shoot accurately. No problems and the price was fantastic. Got the LE price and a fifty dollar rebate. Mine came with three magazines. Is that normal??

I bought mine new about 3 years ago, but had the sights upgraded to tritium. Never any malfunction of any kind. There is nothing wrong with this gun!

Buy it. You need it!

As with any product, you will find some unhappy customers. I have a M&P9c with a 40c top slide. I can interchange between the two calibers easy enough by swapping out the slides and mags. I prefer NS but found mine without so that is what I have. M&P triggers are gritty but functional. They do smooth out with use, so dry fire away. You won't hurt it. I just like the feel of the Apex sear better. That is just me. Whatever works for you, use it. I carry my 40c everyday in a RGrizzle GS holster. It has been perfect from day one.

With over 12K rounds thru my M&P 9c I have no complaints.

I never had a gritty trigger but did shoot a full sized 9 that did. You can remover the striker safety block and polish it, that's the part that makes things feel gritty on some of the M&Ps. Or you can shoot it (and dry fire using a snap cap), that will also smooth it out.

Many people swear by the Apex parts, just like after market Glock parts. That's fine if you want to modify your pistol but I don't think it's necessary.

You can buy the 9c with confidence.

I have a FS 45 & 9, both of the triggers were exactly the same. Both had a slight amount of grit on the take up but broke clean. After a lot of dry firing and shooting I have bought the Apex duty/carry kit for the 9 but I am debating weather or not to install it. I am very happy with the way the triggers have broken in and the reliability is outstanding. I would not hesitate if the gun fits your hand and you like it. After all, it is a very personal decision and yours is the only opinion that matters in the end.

I have an M&P 40c, no problems yet, trigger is fine, accuracy is fine. I like it!

As long as you end up with one of the most recent production versions of your 9C, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I have put around 1200 rounds through my M&P 9 full-size (Aug 2009 production run, bought in Dec 2010) with no mechanical malfunctions.

Some people might feel the trigger on the M&P is a little mushy (esp. if coming from Glock) and gritty out of the box, but that can be remedied with either lots of use, Apex aftermarket parts, or looking at getting a M&P9 "Pro" model instead (they have a slightly upgrade trigger).

I just ordered a 9C myself as an alternate/backup pistol that can utilize the same magazines as my FS. Can't wait!

Just IMHO, but these guns are stamped out like, well, stamps , and sometimes you will get a bad one. There are manufacturing tolerances all over the place....

However, S&W will help you out.

Meantime, remember that if you see a complaint here, there are probably only a few more people with the same problem, and hundreds more who aren't having it.... Very few people post "my M&P is perfect", except in cases where you're trying to help somebody else.

I would look at the Apex DCAEK mod, eventually, but you can live with the stock gun, and in many cases, if you shoot it enough (500+ rounds), you may not need it. YMMV. IMHO, S&W missed the boat in not building the gun with essentially this setup already in it, but it's inexpensive, fairly easy to do (or cheap to pay somebody to do it), and can improve the overall feel of the gun considerably.

I'm a little spoiled - I have two late 60's S&W wheelguns with what were about the finest off-the-shelf SA triggers ever available, and the Apex kits pretty well took my M&P's to that level. I found them pretty awful stock. But it's still a YMMV. They really aren't that bad out of the box.

SO, go ahead and buy several!

Two things you have to remember.

1) People are much more inclined to gripe when they have a problem than to sing praises when things are going well. In other words you are more likely to hear from a hand full of folks with issues than to hear from thousands of perfectly satisfied customers.

2) No manufacturer is immune to letting an imperfect specimen slip threw now and then. Choose any gun manufacturer, even high end gun manufacturers like Kimber and spend a little time on their forums and you will see what I mean.

IMO the important thing to look at when reading about these problems is how well does the manufacturer back their product and how good is their customer service. S&W backs their guns with a lifetime warranty and most here would give their CS at least 3-1/2 stars out of 4.

I have a 9c. It's my most boring gun. I mean that in a good way. I've never had an issue through about 1200 rounds so far. It barely looks broken in, carries like a dream, I don't feel like I have to baby it, recoil... what recoil? and mags are inexpensive and easy to come by (thanks to Greg Cote). Full disclosure: At some point the white dot in my front sight fell out. Very common problem it seems. White nail polish on the end of a toothpick cured that problem. Great gun.
