both of these guns are 100% NIB and about the same price wise. i have started to buy various NIB vintage SW and stashing them in a safe for a rainy day. can any long term collectors tell me which of the 2 would be the more desirable model for investment purposes?

1975 SW 19 4" NIB $850

I vote 28 without a doubt! Be careful of copyright infringements using dealers pictures.

the 19 would be my choice.....other voters will be along soon to confuse you even more....maybe you should snag BOTH of them!!!!!

Believe me I do want them aaaaaaaaalllllllllll. Alas, there is just so much money one can put into one hobby. ;)

19 vs. 28

If you are only interested in the investment opportunities posed by these two offerings you have to predict and compare the longterm desirability of them both. By looking at history you can get a clue.

I would go with the 19.

The Combat Magnums always had a certain 'mystique' that followed them whereas the 28's were simply considered workhorses.

That coupled with the 4" barrel suggests to me that long term it will be the best choice.

The Ns seems to be gaining more steam around here. There is that forcing cone stigma which I think will always haunt the 19s, deserved or not.

I wouldn't buy either one. They are both overprice by about $300 each. Six inch 28 bring less than the more desireable 4"ers.
Your money though.

I would go with the 28. They are both overpriced though.

The best actual prices for closed deals i have seen for NIB of these is around 650-700. One guy said they are overpriced by $300, if anybody is willing to sell me guns like these NIB for $500 let me know!!

Both too high priced for what you are getting.

New in box or not , they (Smith) made a slew of H.P.s and model 19s.

Seek out better deals ,even on new in box guns.

This advice, and about $1.75. will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Good luck

Fugate has some nice stuff, you know what they say about buying guns? You didn't pay too much you just bought it too early.
Tough choice, good luck.

I think that about sums it up.... I used to collect DMPL silver dollars. Seemed awfully expensive at the time.... now looking back, didn't make a bit of a difference if I paid 20 bucks too much for some. They ALL went up big time.

A question from a non-collector and no money member:
Is the price on these revolver TOO HIGH??

In my opinion YES. They should be in the $650 to $700 range max. Though I have overpaid for something I really wanted from time to time, just not $200 too much.

While I collect, I collect shootable guns. I only own two NIB's a Ruger Security-Six and a S&W Model 19 in Nickel. NIB means 'don't ever shoot me, because I won't be NIB anymore'. So I leave most of those for others.

Agreed.
HPs and 19 are not in short supply. I see many of both for sale, some NIB at gunshows around here all the time. The OPs guns are $200 too high even by California standards.

I'd go with the 19. Named the Combat Masterpiece for a reason. They are balanced very well and easier to pack.

You can't go wrong with either but I just love a 19 or 66 and that 19 is a knockout!

I too agree both are overpriced, but if you have the money you're getting a fantasic revolver eithe way.
