Snowmaggeddon in Seattle

Over hear on the east side you would think that it's the end of the world! SNOW - OMG we're going to get a bunch of SNOW!!! Grocery stores were packed! Like your not going to be able to get out for a month!!

Geez, what a bunch chicken little's - but then you realize that most of these people are transplants from CA - then things begin to make sense again....

That's what I miss about Minnesota - no one panics when it looks like it might snow - and you never had to trim your nose hair - you just go outside in January when it's -30 degrees, all your nose hair will freeze, blow your nose the hair breaks off and is gone!

And everyone over here with their Subarus who thought they were now impervious to inclement driving conditions are realizing the same thing all of us already know, having dealt with firearms.

It isn't the tool that makes the difference. It's the person wielding it.

Yes, but you actually learned something. People here are dumb. I know, I watch them drive on dry pavement and they stink!

It is kind of funny though. I grew up driving in Alaska. So this around here is nothing.

up there its always that first good storm that wakes em up and reminds them to change modes. After that they could run road races over ball bearings.
Most of us never forget though.
the first winter here with my wife she was driving us along after the first storm. I saw that curve coming up and just said "hon your a little hot" she said "cant you wait till we're home" ...... round and round we went she screamed "WAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!" I said .. its cool you'll stop with a gentle thump on the other side of that storm drain. to that she responded "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" ... in the direction we were headed ....
well you get the jist of her vocabulary at the time ... she wondered how I could stay so calm.

It's in the 70's here in Jax again today... I wore a t shirt to work again...

Just a little update; now 131 out of 132 school districts are closed. They're interviewing the superintendant of the one still open. He said it just wasn't that bad there. He's on the extreme southeast corner on the Pacific Ocean. I guess the ocean moderated the temp so it didn't get as cold.

It's funny about the news. Most of the stations are telling everyone to stay home and let the government agencies take care of the situation. Then there's one that says "we'll show you the pictures, and you can make up your own mind whether or not you are capable of dealing with it."

You can pretty much guess which way the respective editorial boards lean.

Everyone panics, nobody really knows how to drive and they all stock up on supplies like we're going to be trapped until spring.
We have dry wood in the shed, food in the pantry and freezers, generator if necessary and don't mind not going to town for a few days.
I just take the day off, cook up some homemade beef stew and garlic bread. Kids play outside with the snow shoes-
There is something beautiful about fresh unbroken snow- Took Gump for a walk through 1 foot of powder down the old logging trail and through the woods. Gump's 140# lab x, I let him break trail for me.
Bunch of dogs, cats and kids hanging by the fire, life is good.

I recall a snowfall in NYC, Manhattan, Upper West Side, in the '70s or maybe early '80s. Looking out my window on Broadway and 112th there were skiers skiing down Broadway....

Why, I remember the winter of '68 in Seattle, one of the worst on record. The snow was up to my knees and it filled my boots everytime I took a step. But then, I was only 6 years old, so everything seemed worse!

I called my daughter in Washington State last night. She told me there was 7 inches on the lawn & still coming down. Don't know about today. But here in Oregon there wind is gusting to 70 MPH & my rain gauge has over 2 inches showing so far. Power is still on & not many sirens going up to the hospital nearby.Keeping the fire going & having a Toddy now & then is a full time job for this old guy. Rereading my old Rifleman Mags.

427mach1; they have made several references to January 1969 as the last time there was this much snow in a single day. We're pretty much wussies on this side of the mountains when it comes to snow. We just don't get it that much, and when we do, it's fairly mild and short-lived. But it's always a panic.

BTW, your avatar is my high school dream car. I was twelve when the '70 Mach 1 came out and my Dad worked at the Ford/Lincoln-Mercury dealer. Somehow I couldn't convince him that he needed a Mustang instead of the suicide door Continental he bought.

in florida when it rains...........you can count to ten, then you hear all the sirens, people can't drive unless its sunny out.

sorry, sometimes i blow things all out of proportion,.......forgot to mention all the q-tips that still think its the times of horse and buggy.90% of the people you follow in fla.,all you see is knuckles and a little white ball of hair (q-tips) lol crashes looking for a place to happen.

What .. and deprive his grandson of the joy of earning his college tuition?!?!:D
man .. some of these machines could have solved some financial problems if only we knew then what we know now

This is gonna crack a lot of you up. It's snowing fairly hard in most of Western Washington right now, and the area is in a panic! We have maybe 4 inches on the ground at our place. So far I see about 5 pretty good wrecks on the freeway around here, and all of the schools are closed. The local news has been broadcasting proper driving techniques and telling people they should stock up on food. By the way, the snow will probably be gone by Friday morning. Take a look at our local news:

I'm working from home today and have coined the phrase SNOWPOCALYPSE: 2012!!!™ to describe the 6-8" in our front yard. real pretty, though, and it's sure going to be a pain getting into work tomorrow...

Hahahaha....Q-tips. I like that. And so true to. Scary sometimes, they'll pull right out into oncoming traffic........and stop!
