Little Rascals

Stymie was my hero. The Derby and the big ears were wonderful assets. My favorite was when the pirate came holding Stymie and ask the Captian Pirate what he wanted for dinner, the Pirate Captian said, "Dark Meat, Ofcourse".
Only Stymie could have pulled off the look he gave the camera.

Matthew "Stymie" Beard was a great child actor. One of my favorites.
He passed away in January of 1981.

Sip, I know what you mean about the current kids shows. My 7 yo grandaughter watches that stuff. Not the best impression for your girls.

How dare you expose that poor child to that politically incorrect trash from a terrible era when you can let her watch animated robots and space aliens blow each other up from kingdom come! It's got to be some form of child abuse.

What's that?
An arrtichoke.
Well. it may choke Artie but it's not gonna choke Stymie.

cartoons

Fortunately my grandkids have seemed to figure out that SpongeBob can potentially lower their IQ. For example, the characters live at the bottom of the ocean, right? How can they have a campfire? How can they spray or spill water when they are IN water? How do they make ice cubes? It goes on and on.

Some of these other alleged "cartoons" on the Cartoon Network are even more lame. The animation is worse than the nonsensical plots. What happened to Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes? Those from the late forties through the fifties are the best. Whenever I stumble across those and the grandkids are around I show them what real cartoons are supposed to look like. They only seem to play them randomly on Cartoon Network.

They also like my stash of Three Stooges - I have DVD's of all the Curly shorts. I'll have to get them in front of some Youtube Rascals, thanks for the reminder.

Yeah well...I can top that! How about a guy shootin a duck in the face with a 12 gauge....and all that happens is the duck reaches around the back of his head to pull his bill back around to the front of his face?

I guess I was kinda partial to Sally Starr. All dressed up in her cowgirl outfit and well healed to boot. I can't remember if her show featured the Stooges or Popeye.

In NJ as a kid in the late 50's I used to come home from school, and the Stooges and the Rascals were hosted by a Police Officer named "Officer Joe Bolton". Possibly on channel 9 or 11 then in the NJ/NY area.

Followed by Popeye cartoons with Capt. Jack McCarthy...
Do you also remember Tommy 7:" he's our favorite TV clown" ( a local NY show on ABC 7 TV...Damn, i'm getting old...

I raised my kids on Bugs Bunny and Loony Tunes, especially the ones where Bugs was impersonating Leopold Stokowski and making the orchestra play things his way. One day I was driving my three-year old daughter and had the classical radio station on.......a song came on and she started screaming "TURN IT UP! It's CARTOON MUSIC" I almost drove off the road laughing.

Wildman From Borneo.........I can still hear that actor's voice in my head, repeating the same line over and over............."Yum Yum, eat 'em up!" And the kids were running around and screaming........I think I pee'd myself I was so afraid they'd get caught and eaten........

My youngest is now 19, and he and I watch Bugs Bunny every chance we get.

Many of the cast of the “Little Rascals” seemed to live tragic lives after the series ended.

Alfalfa was shot to death at age 31 by an ex-business partner.

Chubby died at the age of 18 following an operation.

Darla Hood contracted hepatitis after minor surgery and died from heart failure at age 47.

Froggy was killed in a motor scooter accident at age 16.

Mickey Daniels died of cirrhosis of the liver at 55.

Stymie became a heroin addict and spent his younger years in and out of jail. He died at age 56.

Scotty Beckett died at age 38 from an overdose of barbiturates.

Wheezer was killed in an airplane accident at age 19.

Buckwheat died at age 49 of a heart attack.

Dorothy committed suicide after going bankrupt.

Brisbane committed suicide.

Slim was killed in a dispute with another man.

Pete the dog was poisoned to death.

Hey Tony, don't be dissin' Sponge Bob. I watch it with my granddaughter just for the laughs.

Retired yet?:D

look up banned Looney Tunes. Mostly things like Bugs dressed up as a cowboy rolling a smoke or taking a shot of red eye. Lots of non pc from the WWII area. Refers to Tojo as monkey face among other things. Some nasty remarks as a plantation owner and racial stereotype drawing of different ethnic groups. Watch them all the time and I still managed to grow up not being a racist. Ok so sometime I crawl up on the roof and drop an anvil on my dog's head but it's only to get back at him for sticking his finger it the muzzle of my 29 so it opens up like a banana!

So my wife and I got tired of our 6 year old watching those horrid Disney shows with nothing but smack talking teens...so tonight, I took out the ipad and sat her down with her brother Dino (he's 3) and we watched youtube clips from the our gang series. Well, I never seen her laugh so hard. So did Dino. Of course, she did want to know why some of the kids in the talent show dressed up in black face...that one was a bit harder to explain....:)

Sip, our lives must be running some sort of East Coast/West Coast parallel. Just this past week, we've started showing my 6 year old son, and 3 year old daughter clips of the Three Stooges on the iPad... They love the slapstick humor, my son laughs louder than I've ever heard him laugh, great fun!

I never was much of a Little Rascals fan, but my wife likes them. Gotta love Mo, Larry, and Curly. My son's favorite episode, so far, is "Disorder In The Court." "Will you please take off that hat!"

Probably not the best modeling for the kids, but hey, we turned out normal, right...? Right...?
