Dora and Diego might be learning shows but they are so annoying about it that you want to still a drill in your ear.
In NJ as a kid in the late 50's I used to come home from school, and the Stooges and the Rascals were hosted by a Police Officer named "Officer Joe Bolton". Possibly on channel 9 or 11 then in the NJ/NY area.

Stymie was my hero. The Derby and the big ears were wonderful assets. My favorite was when the pirate came holding Stymie and ask the Captian Pirate what he wanted for dinner, the Pirate Captian said, "Dark Meat, Ofcourse".
Only Stymie could have pulled off the look he gave the camera.
Matthew "Stymie" Beard was a great child actor. One of my favorites.
He passed away in January of 1981.

Fortunately my grandkids have seemed to figure out that SpongeBob can potentially lower their IQ. For example, the characters live at the bottom of the ocean, right? How can they have a campfire? How can they spray or spill water when they are IN water? How do they make ice cubes? It goes on and on.

Followed by Popeye cartoons with Capt. Jack McCarthy...
Do you also remember Tommy 7:" he's our favorite TV clown" ( a local NY show on ABC 7 TV...Damn, i'm getting old...
Many of the cast of the “Little Rascals” seemed to live tragic lives after the series ended.

Chubby died at the age of 18 following an operation.
Darla Hood contracted hepatitis after minor surgery and died from heart failure at age 47.
Froggy was killed in a motor scooter accident at age 16.
Mickey Daniels died of cirrhosis of the liver at 55.
Stymie became a heroin addict and spent his younger years in and out of jail. He died at age 56.

Some of these other alleged "cartoons" on the Cartoon Network are even more lame. The animation is worse than the nonsensical plots. What happened to Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes? Those from the late forties through the fifties are the best. Whenever I stumble across those and the grandkids are around I show them what real cartoons are supposed to look like. They only seem to play them randomly on Cartoon Network.
They also like my stash of Three Stooges - I have DVD's of all the Curly shorts. I'll have to get them in front of some Youtube Rascals, thanks for the reminder.
So my wife and I got tired of our 6 year old watching those horrid Disney shows with nothing but smack talking teens...so tonight, I took out the ipad and sat her down with her brother Dino (he's 3) and we watched youtube clips from the our gang series. Well, I never seen her laugh so hard. So did Dino. Of course, she did want to know why some of the kids in the talent show dressed up in black face...that one was a bit harder to explain....![]()
