I go early in the morning hoping to see a stocked shelves of ammo but no it's pretty bare. I've been going for weeks grabbing what I can find. I have a feeling they're putting out a few boxes at a time. I'm talking 9mm and 40sw, there's plenty of other calibers. I shot a box of WWB 9mm yesterday and have one left.

This is what I've collected so far.

My walmart get ammo shipped in Thursday night ,stock is sitting in the floor late Friday and Saturday am. Sunday at 0800 sold out.

You are very inadequately supplied! When I last went on an ammo-stocking spree, I came to believe that at some area WalMarts, employees were alerting favored customers to incoming shipments. Also, some sporting goods clerks told me that in some cases, retirees with time on their hands had figured out some stores' restocking schedule, and would be waiting, first thing in the morning, to buy up whatever was being stocked. I once found a store that had just laid in several thousand rounds of Federal bulk-pack .22 rimfire. It was in a locked display case. I told the clerk I wanted to buy it. "How many boxes do you want," he asked. "I'll take all of it," I replied. He was amazed. Soon thereafter, they instituted a maximum number of boxes, six, I think, that an individual customer could purchase in one day. I may be partly to blame, or thanked, for this policy...

Since my Walmart is open 24 hrs they can't sell ammo after certain hours can't they?

I was in our local Walmart a couple days ago, picked up several boxes of .38 Special (100 packs). I go in there at every week or two to pick up .45 ACP or .38 in 100 packs, if they have any. The fella behind the counter told me they get a haphazard supply, no set days or schedule. He also said that he often gets wiped out by guys from local gun shops!
They resell at their shop for at least 10% more than Walmart price. I sure hope we don't have another frenzy like 2008.
I don't buy everything they have, usually just a box or two, like to leave something for the next citizen.

Every 24 hrs store has its own policy.
Mainly seem to be driven by the who has the key problem.
Most store seems to have only 2 keys (store manager and the other floating key)
One store post a sign 8am-7pm (forgot exactly where it is 7or8).
One store clerk tells me that it is state law - no sale after 10pm - Not true at all. Bought there after 10pm but via a Dept Manager.
One store no sale after 10pm because night manager doesn't have the key and didn't want to deal with it.
Most stores there is no time limit as long as someone can find the key.

Last year probably after much trouble and complain about missing key or employee going home or break with the only key, every store in DFW that I go to now, the key is tied to one of those clothes security tag.
Seem like all store keys not just the ammo key suddenly have one of those tag on them now.

Where are you in Texas?
There are plenty of ammo in the DFW area especially after the recent price increase last month.

I have several family members looking for me at a few different Wal-Marts. I am always looking for the Federal 9mm 100 packs. Around 19cents a round. My LGS sells cases of American Eagle 1000rds for around $210 - 220 so not too bad. May get a few of those if Wal-Mark keeps running empty.

:confused:All the Walmarts around here have plenty every time I walk by the ammo.:confused:

IMO some of the activities being described in this thread will help in causing a ammo problem. Buying everything in the case will only cause a shortage giving the manufacturers and stores a reason to raise prices costing us all more money. Remember, the prices still haven't come down from the 2008 stupidness and if we help it happen again no one will be able to afford ammo!!!

I have no problem with buying what you need and a little extra just in case but emptying the case will only make thing hard on everyone and cost us a lot of money in the long run...

If a person was to sit down & calculate the difference between buying factory range ammo & reloading their own they would faint.

Can I get an "AMEN"?!!!

Figure out the time spent repeatedly checking Walmarts and the shipping charges for simply ordering online may well look attractive, the more so with relatively high gas prices.

Depends on the store. There is no corporate policy on ammo sales. In fact, there was one specific store near me that refused to sell after 9pm. I complained to wal-mart corporate, got a letter stating their policy and then walked it in to the manager the next time I was there. He told me that he would clarify this with his staff. Never had a problem after that.

That being said, the ammo selection and stock levels at the closest store near me is god awful.

Every once in a while, I make a trip to a wal-mart on the edge of town which has a HUGE ammo case, is open 24 hours and is always well stocked, and they never had an issue with selling me ammo at any time of day, in fact I have bought at 1:30am.

My local Walmart only carries Winchester Whitebox and sometimes Federal target ammo. They don't carry any premium ammo or personal defense ammo.

They always seem to have .38 130 gr.; .357 125 gr., and 40 caliber in 165 grain. Sometimes they have some heavier bullets. But these almost always are in stock and are priced better than anywhere else (including on-line).

I live just north of Interstate 84 in New York. No Walmarts south of Interstate 84 carry ammo, rifles or shotguns. This is some sort of corporate ruling. So I can buy ammo near my home, but not near my office.
