S&W Sport question

That's a hard question to answer. First, 15-Sports seem to be scarce lately; in stores and online. Low supply + high demand means more places are asking MSRP or close to it.

Prices at gun stores also fluctuates from region to region.

If you buy one online, then add on shipping and whatever transfer fees your FFL assesses.

Right now, prices are ranging anywhere between $650 - $770 (before tax, fees, etc...) by me. Even at the high price, people are snapping them up quick.

JaPez is absolutely correct! Last December I purchased mine for $610. Back then the LGS owner told me he could not keep them on the rack and I lucked out and got the last one in the rack that day. My friend liked mine so much he went to my dealer and he ordered one. It was 3 weeks before he got his. Now I here they are selling for nearly $700 now.

I got mine in Wyoming for $650 last year. I think a store here in Tulsa has one for $700.

Like everyone has said, they are getting harder to find and the prices are going up. If I were you, I would set a limit as to how high I was willing to pay, and grab the first one I found at or under that limit, if you really want one. I wouldn't let one walk because so and so bought one last week for $50 less at a place that is out of stock now.

My local general store said if one was ordered it would still run 600 dollar + or - 5 to 8 bucks, just depending on who he gets it from when avalible. And if he can order it with a few other firearms. This is in NC mountains

Did he give you any idea on lead time? Some folks here have been told 7 months or longer

I feel that between $600 - $675 the M&P Sport represents a great value. The closer to $700 less of a value. At MSRP of $739 or higher, not so much of a value.

It really pains me to say this but if I was shopping for an AR right now, the total OTD price of a S&W 15-Sport at full MSRP + tax + fees would have me looking for one of the mythical Colt LE6920's that folks say they can find for $999; or build a lower & top it off with a complete upper.

...Though right now I haven't seen a Colt LE-series AR in stock, or at $999.

^ All of that is sparking a bit of panic buying across all firearms. The panic buying is starting to feed on itself. It's crazy.

I picked mine up on GunsAmerica.com about a week and a half ago for $639+$25 shipping.

Those $999 Colts all have a unicorn on the roll mark.

I saw one at my local walmart today, I saw it and a DPMS Sport they called it in .308 in the gun section at our walmart in Dodge city Kansas today...The DPMS in .308 was weird looking the upper was a full 1/8th inch taller and wider and longer than the lower. Really didnt look like they fit together. it was around $800 to $900 if my memory serves me, the colt le was a pretty rifle until you picked it up and you could twist the upper and lower in seperate directions and to ask around a grand showed a total lack of build quality but they are out there. I walked away happy with my sport. Also they were completely sold out of the value packs of .22 and had no .223 not even tulammo. I bought a box of 45 long colts and a box of 45acps and was very happy only spending $42.

cyphertext I did not ask him to find one cause will will be ordering it if i do. He may spend more time than his profit will cover to find and get it for us local folks.. He sells ever firearm at 10% over his cost .

When I got mine everyone also said there ain't none . It took my LGS till the next afternoon but found one out west some where ,owner called and said its on the way. SO no i did not ask him to hunt one up. You just need a better gun shop if the guy there told you 7 months. Guys keep turning up with them now and then.

Wal-Mart in Chanute, KS had the LE6920 in today, 1097.00. They've had the DPMS Sportical in 5.56/223, but were sold out, they were listed at 587.00.

I asked if this was the first Colt they've had, no, they've had one before this one, but already sold. They'd also had two fo the Sporticals and sold both. They get one in at a time.

Other AR style rifles they've had in, include the M&P 15-22, only the one that I know of, sold for around 478/487 (can't remember, and it's already gone), as well as the Sig Sauer 522, which was marked around 499 and it too had sold.

The 5.56 version of the sportical, are similar to what Grover described of the 308 version (assuming that was a AR10), where as the upper overhung the lower, looks really bad. Not typical of a DPMS upper, or at least not typical of the Orical Upper that DPMS puts out.

Hardluk, the market has changed from back in Jan when you were looking for your Sport. Even back then, your guy couldn't get it from his normal distributors. They are out there, but I don't think you will find them for below $600 anymore.

The last gunshow I went to in Dallas only had 3 tables that had ARs on them, and one of those tables were all used guns. Used to be you couldn't walk into the Big Town show without tripping over an AR of some flavor.

LOL. The one with the unicorn roll mark is the "My Little Pony" special.

I heard that about the Colts. I know a little lateral play in the upper to lower receiver is normal. I've never held one to gauge the amount of play.

The fellows at different forum don't call the lateral play excessive, a flaw in workmanship, or anything negative. I usually see comments stating that it doesn't affect accuracy and the owner should nut-up & shut-up. It's mil-spec TDP!

Funny. Neither my Sport nor the AR I assembled has any appreciable lateral play between the upper & lower.

I'm still of the opinion that as the 15-Sport's price increases, it puts itself into a different range of competition. At $600 - $650, it's an undeniable value.

You found .45 LC at Wal-Mart! Wow. I thought it was just the Wal-Marts in my area. Mine is completely out of:

  • .22lr Bulk: Federal, Winchester, Remington Golden
  • .22lr CCI Mini-Mag, Stinger, Velocitor
  • 9mm: WWB, Federal, TulAmmo
  • .40 S&W: WWB, Federal, TulAmmo
  • .45ACP: WWB, Federal, TulAmmo
  • .223: American Eagle, TulAmmo

cyphertext S&W has not raised there retail and his distributors have not changed there prices to him. So only your retailers are jacking cost .

Our LGS/general store has got'n two of the M&P camoed 300 wihisper rifles #811300 that retail for 1119 dollars+ and sold those for 926 over the couple weeks. Most guys are dealing with BS dealers. Gun dealers in general are more like car dealers. Mainly bs comes from them.

This local dealer ain't a gun shop, The owner is not a gun guy, just a buisness man. Its a general store and sells for the farm and ranch , gardens , work clothing , grocery staples, safes, hunting suppies, work boots and just happens to stock 450+ firearms. If he tells me the price will be the same I will believe him. I have 15 years of dealing with him.

I tend to not use guns shows for finding what I want. That is the last place I can think of to buy from. Retail +++ if its even there.

We just had our little home town once a year gun show this weekend, I helped work it. There were new M&P sports there from a SC dealer. But like all gun shows prices are not real.

You simple need a firearm dealer to work with you. Not just sell what he has.

JaPes That ar in a 10 or 12 year old girls hands would look about right from what I have seen at some matchs for kids.

Hey our couple walmarts, 30 minutes each way are most time ether maxed out on ammo from restocking and then a day or two later empty again , mostly. Been that way for the last 3 years. Firearm sales are good in one store and another darn near does not sell firearms. Other shops to deal with just kills them.

Now I want everyone to know, I will stop dressing up or painting my rifle well short of the glamgirls gun. That was over the top for me but I am sure my wife would love it. LOL
