I have been looking around for .45acp bullets. Im very new to reloading. What is the biggest grain bullet you can get for a .45acp? I have found some 260g bullets that are .451 diameter. Will these work in a .45acp?

I have loaded the Speer 260 JHP in the olden days.

We used to call it the Bang-Thud load. My buddies swore that the heavy projectile moved so slow that the sound of the gun firing and the sound of the projectile hitting the backstop had a clear time delay between them.

I loaded 8.5 grains of BD. The load did not even break 800FPS

Unless you can get them cheap I don't think I'd go for the 260's. I've never loaded 260's but I suspect there will be a question of OAL with them. There's not much difference in performance between 230 / 260 grain and there's a bunch more load info for the 230 grain. Also be aware of the BHN (hardness). Anything less than about 17/18 BHN should be kept under around 1100 fps for best results and I've read some that say 1000 fps is the limit. In the end it's all just one man's opinion. Try'm. You might likem.

You shouldnt have any problem loading heavier bullets. I ran out of my usual 200gr SWC with a match coming up that weekend and no where to source more bullets in time. I had some .452 250gr round nose flat point 45 colt bullets laying on the shelf. 9gr of blue dot and a taper crimp just behind the crimp groove later and I had functional match ready bullets. The load data was actualy for .45 auto rim in my speer manual but they worked great in my kimber and would obviously work fine in a 625. There was a bit more recoil than my 200gr loads though

Why do you need to load such a heavy bullet?

Since you admit you are very new to reloading , get a few years experience before you start experimenting.

I do not plan to reload such a heavy bullet. I was just looking at .45 bullets and came across these and I just wanted to expand my knowledge lol

Actually I put my foot in my mouth again. Must be the dementia.

Those bullets were primarily meant for .45 Long Colt revolver loads.
BUT , I have an old Speer manual that lists loads for their 260gr JHP in 45 ACP. Can't get it much above 800fps though
