Letter sent to Obama on UN gun treaty

FYI, this is a good, healthy conversation. It gets into a very hard subject in which there is diverse opinion, many coming from different views of the same side.

Any UN treaty won't affect the US domestic rights due to the established precedent in Reid v. Covert, that the Constitution superseded international treaties.

Also, ratifying a treaty requires 67 Senate votes. That'll never happen.

If the President said the sky was blue, the opposition would say it was red.

How many times does this administration need to say that they want to ban more guns before people believe them?

Other than a couple edited videos, you have brought no proof to the table. On the contrary, you seem to be evading the issue of proof.

This administration's body of work to date in terms of gun control has been exactly nothing. Pro or Con.

Ever hear of the phrase "actions speak louder than words"???

Hear ya go. The President being asked point blank if he's going to keep his promise to reinstate the AWB. He responds first by saying (paraphrasing) he has not backed off at all and believes the AWB makes sense... then goes on to say that reinstating the ban isn't easy but he's not steering away from it. // Sounds like a committed gun-grabber to me.

Now if some folks wish to pin a badge of No-Gun-Ban trust on this administration because they haven't found the right opportunity to rally their gun-grabbing pals in Congress, yet, ok. Meanwhile, the NRA and other thoughtful opposition will continue to make it difficult for gun-grabbers to fulfill their stated agenda.

ps. The missing video footage of the President saying he really didn't mean it and he's just kidding is locked away in an NRA vault.

If anyone thinks MITT will save the day, you are sadly mistaken...and George Bush said "put it on my desk and I will sign it" about an assault weapons ban....
This clown in there now is no different.

They are all what Truman said..... starts with a "W"

Show me a video where questions are asked in english, not dubbed over.

And show me something a little more recent than January 2009... like I said, actions speak louder than words

Exactly, Romney is just as likely to legalize polygamy and ban guns

Every politician is anti-gun despite what they may say. Pretty much all law enforcement are too.

They all believe in only a select few (the rich, powerful, and law enforcement elite) owning guns because an armed population is a threat to their existance

Look at what happened in NOLA

OHHH man, nipster, I am from born and raised in New Orleans. I doubt you really understand all of the circumstances with Katrina.

I wish their was an unlike button for some of your comments.

Secondly, this is the major point, there is a slippery slope of declination of the implied intent of unifying any of our firearms rights or amendments with the globalist UN. Frogs in slowly boiling water.

Thank goodness we never have cops execute stings or set up elaborate multi state, multi year investigations where illegal things are done under color of the investigation in order to improve the outcome.

But it's great we can look at Fast and Furious as the only one that failed in judicial history.

Now to deeds. At no point has any of this administration [or the Democratic members of Congress] done a single thing to execute the AWB or gun control. Will they? Evidence has shown NO. What evidence? From 2009-2012 we have seen Giffords and Fast and Furious and high profile mass shootings from Alabama to California to Carthage, North Carolina to Binghamton, NY to Manchester, CT to Ft Hood. All of these gave politicos ammunition to start swaying the public opinion if they had wanted to try. But they did not. ZERO.

The question to the President if he was going to keep his promise to reinstate the AWB was not dubbed over. It was asked by a US journalist in English just as you heard it. If for some reason you need proof of this, below is a video with a camera angle on the US journalist asking his question to the President in English.

Even if there was a translator involved delivering the question to the President, how would it have changed what the President said regarding his position on the AWB? The President said what he said, regardless if the question was translated for the President. I don't understand why you needed to see another video? What did you think was going to be different?

As you asked, here ya go...

Me thinks it may be time for a purge. All this time I have been thinking I was on a gun forum with like minded individuals with a singular goal for the advanced study of the spiral tube. IMHO.

They have not because they saw what happened after they did it during the Clinton administration. Ask Tom Foley about it. They know that the wrath of the NRA will come down on them like a load of logs if they try it again. That is why people like me continue to be supporters of the e-vile gun lobby, and why we continue to support NRA-ILA, why we continue to send letters and emails to our congressmen.

The current administration hasn't called for anti-gun legislation because of the fear of the NRA. That is why the 130 congressmen sent the letter. That is why the Treaty under consideration now doesn't have the chance of a snowball in Moultrie, Georgia on the 4th of July of passing.

I guess we are just knuckle-draggers, clinging to our guns and our religion.
I'm proud to be a certified knuckle-dragger.

I hope any members reading this thread who are not NRA members and supporters will get with the program and join now.

Thank you. You just made my point. There have not been any activities to change gun rights because there is no political payback for Congresscritters. A majority of Conservatives and a good many Liberals are on the side of gun rights and elected officials know it.

But still too many folks want to believe thar be dragons. Fine. As was posted on another forum today "Any day now ... the sky is going to fall. Any day now."

As for Foley...might want to look up Washington State's Term Limit issue in 1990-1994. That was his downfall. And for a good reason.

If given the opportunity, yes.

That's why it's so important for the NRA and other other thoughtful Americans to stay on top of this administration and their gun-grabbing pals in Congress. As quoted in the link I provided you earlier, gun-grabbers are "petrified" of the NRA. You should read that link. It's a good illustration of why gun control has been stifled. It's not because gun-grabbers in Washington have changed their stripes. Give them an inch, and they'll take your guns. Join the NRA. Just say no to the treaty.

It's curious that you criticize folks for sounding alarm bells, when it's the alarm bells that help keep the 'congress critters' and this administration in fear of moving forward with gun control. Do not think for a moment their minds have changed. Gun-grabbing is a disorder that is never fully cured.
