I made a big mistake by selling all my Glocks and buying M&P's

First rule no matter what the brand. If you shoot it well and it is reliable, don't sell it! My Shield 9mm and my Gen 4 19 and 26 Glocks run fine. Plan on a few more Glocks and M & P's since I like both. Plus you lose money when you buy new and sell used most of the time and I hate to lose money!

Give me a break!

I sold three Glocks after I got my M&P, and I don't regret it.

What's really funny about the whole Shield 40 mag drop problem, I know how to fix it. If I do, I void my warranty.

It's the mag catch spring, not the catch itself. S&W used the same diameter wire spring for the Shield as they did on the other M&P's. It's easy to see the spring on the Shield does not have nearly the same tension on it the 40c or 40 Pro have.

A larger diameter wire spring, or drilling the hole that mounts the spring at an angle towards the mag catch, so the tension on the spring would be greater, would solve the issue.

I seriously doubt if S&W would even try this fix.

I will be selling the Shield tomorrow at the gun show, so problem solved.

I have no prior experience with plastic striker fired pistols, but I do love my Smiths so I thought if I'm ever gonna try a plastic pistol it should be a M&P. I bought a new 9 mm full size a few months ago and so far have around 700 rounds through it. I did the Burwell trigger job to it and got it down to 4 1/4 lbs. Not a bad feeling trigger. But this thing shoots like ****. At 15 yds it will do 4 to 5 inch groups. I have an older 6904 that will do 1 1/2 to 2 inches at 15 yds. Heck my little Kel-Tec PF9 will cut the groups of the M&P in half !!!

I've been reading a lot lately about the accuracy problems with the FS 9 mm and I've read about the factory replacing some barrels and also not doing anything but telling customers that their pistol is "in spec". I'm gonna try a custom fitted Storm Lake barrel, only because I like everything else about the pistol. If it wasn't for what I like about it I would be looking to dump it on a new Springfield XD. I shot one that a friend just bought and it shoots right with my old 6904.

I used to be all about glocks till I got my hands on the 3rd gen smiths. sold all my glocks and bought 3 4566tsw's and couldnt be more happy. I have no experience with the m&p lines and doubt i ever will but i would like to shoot one sometime

When it comes to revolvers, I am not interested at even looking at anything other than S & W from the early 80s back. However, when it comes to semi autos, all I have are GLOCKS. I realize that there may be others that have a grip that is more comfortable, but a comfortable grip isn't what is defending my home. Dependable, accurate firepower is. I have owned others, but have sold them all.

It's disappointing to hear you had issues with the 40 shield, I was considering getting one but splurged on my 640 pro series instead and couldn't be happier.
I'm not a glock aficionado but they do make a reliable firearm. Although I was much more happy with an FNP 40 I owned then with my buddy's Glock 22.

I have seven M&P's. All the 9's,FS 45 and the M&P 22 and zero problems with any of them. Like my Colt's, High Standard's and Ruger's too

I'd rather have (well,I do actually have both/all) a sling shot, blowgun, boomerang, two compound bow's & arrow,a recurve bow and a cross bow and would buy a spear before I'd own one Gluck-a-boom. Glocks are like shooting a brick with a pipe on it. Tried them when they came out and went back to Colt's. Tried them later and stuck with Colt and got a High Standard. Gave Glock one last chance and bought an M&P FS 9 insted and never looked back.

Mine is a Remington 870 Tactical and 00 buck and a S&W FS 45 with 230 grain FN FMJ bullets.

Well that's too bad. I think you sold your Glocks too quick and you're not giving the M&P a fair enough chance. You still didn't say what was wrong with your .40 Shield. Feels like you started a troll thread to get people fired up. You can complain over on glocktalk and get more sympathy.

I recently jumped on the M&P bandwagon (.22, .40, and shield .40) with zero problems so far. But I'm keeping my Glocks too. No problems with the glocks other than they stretch my brass out lot and the triggers are spongy.

If you had read all the posts of this thread, you would know what the problem with my 40 Shield is. I also explained I'm very pleased with my 40c and 40Pro, after the Pro went back to S&W. The whole point of my first post was, out of 3 new M&P's, two had problems and needed to go back to S&W. I've never had a problem with a new Glock, used ones yes, never new. And yes I did sell off the Glocks too fast, my bad.

Something's not right about this....somethings fishy....? Diehard glock owner...buys M&P...now wants to whine....not buying it.

I don't love any gun or maker - just the right product. So I have several Glocks (9mm only, thank you), non-MIM/no-lock S&W revolvers, Series 70 Colt Governments, and now two 9mm Shields. No .40s for me; an answer to an unasked question. Want something bigger than as 9mm? Get a .45.

After working out my Shields, I sold my G26. They are a better EDC gun, IMHO. But I did my research. Given what I read of other's experiences, I would not buy a Shield in .40 (even after allowing for the naysayers).

I don't buy the first new car off the production line, either. ;-)

Sorry to hear the OP is dissatisfied with his choices. Glocks have a reputation (deserved or not) of being as reliable as a brick. Unfortunately IMO they share the ergonomics and esthetics of a brick as well.

As far as the OP not being able to conceal the Shield goes I'm not aware of any Glock model that is any more concealable. As onother postrer pointed out, with a proper holster there should be no problem concealing the 40c or Shield. Heck, I have no problem concealing a 40fs in an IWB holster and I'm only 5'7" and 150lbs.

The human factor comes into play in any manufactured product. Even Glock has had some issues and contrary to popular belief they even let a bad one slip out the door on occasion. Glock made the original "Tupperware" gun so they have the edge in experience over S&W since this is a relatively new area for them. S&W does stand by their products with a lifetime warranty and usually goes above and beyond to address any issues a customer may have with a particular gun.

Humm, this is a first I've heard of the M&P problems. Is there any problems with the full size 45? I took it out right after I got it and it seemed to shoot fine.
The full size M&P .45's seem to have the fewest problems.

But, the first one I bought several years ago had the dreaded "dead trigger" syndrome.

Replaced it with a newer model. Front sight nearly fell out of the dovetail during the first magazine. S&W replaced the standard sights with night sights. Only fired about 400 rounds through it since, but it seems OK.

The 2011 pistol had a slightly better trigger (actually, it sucked less) and a more positive manual safety than the earlier gun. Both were quite accurate.
