Just got the Flyers in the mail...

Walmart is advertising a Cannon Safe 24-Gun, 30min @ 1,200F, electronic lock, door organizer, mountable to wall, $597.00

Also they show a Stack-On Safe, 14-Gun, 30min @ 1,400F, 4 adjustable shelves, $397.00

Sounds not bad to me...

I kinda like the Stack-On, just for ammo storage. But I never saw an Safe in person at my local store...

...I tried to get Mrs Rule to put it in the car but she refused.:D

You should get Mrs. Rule a bigger car then ;)

Looks like I'm headed to WallyWorld tomorrow. I don't need a safe, but a couple of them would be better than the gun cases my long guns are stored in now. I wonder if Sam's is cheaper.

TS sells a Cannon Challenger 24 gun safe for $100 less than the Walmart ad. That's why I mentioned them. Might be able to get one delivered to the store, if you ask?

Yes, they deliver, but they charge a $60 fee if I recall correctly...

You would be wise to save your money for a better one. A decent one will cost 1k or more but will deter crooks to a greater degree.
A cheap safe will keep kids or amateurs out, but a pro will pop it open like a can of Bud.

You are indeed correct, but in my town all we have are kids and amateurs-we're not big enough for the pros;)

I have seen these type of safes and IMHO they are not much more than glorified Gym lockers. They might serve the purpose of keeping the kids away from your guns & ammo but please don't put too much faith in them protecting your firearms and other valuables from would be thieves as they can get into them in a matter of minutes.

I would recommend saving up for a better ( a real ) safe or look for a used one that can be gotten at a cut rate price. Anybody who is a firearm enthusiast usually winds up with a sizable and valuable collection and you don't want that in a $400 safe! Cheap safes give a false sense of security. Better to deal with it now then regret it later. Just my .02 cents........

OH and by the way..........
ANYTIME you have a safe delivered to your house you will want to make sure the Company is bonded, insured and delivers it in a truck that does not say SAFES all over it. Can'tbe too careful these days!

Somthing to think about, any safe is better than no safe and coupled with a alarm system.I have a friend with a glass door gun cabinet in his game room.I`m after him all the time to get somthing.Makes me shudder just to think about it.

I understand the discussion and sure, these safes are not that good.
But there are always two sides of the story. A "cheap" safe + alarm might do it's job. But I assume that nobody with thousands of dollars worth of guns would put these in a safe like that.

In my case, I think I safe up some money and buy a better one. My current one I will then use for ammo.

The one I like is

Only $4,993.95 if you order today!

So that has to wait a little while...

I have the glorified gym locker version. I screwed it to the wall in an out of the way closet. If I ever get a real safe, I would hide it well and keep some cheap **** in the "decoy safe".

Saw the safes/cabinets today and wouldn't buy them. Too light and not that good of quality. Rather buy a used one of a better brand! Sorry, but this thread was unnecessary...

But they have a Windham and Sig AR on display... both less than 1k... just sayin'... :)

GSA government safes. I have an old Tomahawk data safe from Hamilton with a great lock. Got it at a local GSA auction for $50. 894 pounds of real steel.

yup, also the better quality safes have better fire protection which imo is just as important, if not more, than burglar protection.

a cheap safe is better than no safe but if you have an extensive valuable collection it makes sense to store it in a quality safe.

Was looking at the Stack On Premier 32 gun safe with door organizer. Any comments about this safe would be appreciated.
thank you.
