Muscle Car Madness

I sold her, but this used to be my go fast car. 1996 Camaro SS. Its funny, it could still keep up with the more modern muscle cars.

I will soon own another one. However, the next one will be a stick and not an auto.

How many horsies in there?

Not nearly enough! It's currently running stock at 315...

Is that a Bullit?

Yup! That's a 2008 Bullitt Mustang!

Steve McQueen would be proud I'm sure. Be surprised how many folks out there have heard of a Bullitt Mustang, but have NO idea what it was built for!

Many people who see the car will compliment me on it but few tend to know what it represents... and on more than one occasion I've had to tell them about the movie! :(

Here is my 1970 GTO. I've owned it since I was 15. Restored it in 2002 and have been enjoying it since. Last summer I took my daughter on a trip to Colorado and Wyoming.

The same summer I also had it at Gingerman raceway in Michigan, with my son.

Good times...

P.S. It is red, even though in some pictures it looks orange.

I have a DVD of this film, might be a good time to dust it off and watch it again. (I could use a break from political talk).

My daughter was dating a fellow who had a keen interest in Mustangs when the first Bullitt model came out. I mentioned it to them and got a blank stare. Later that evening I noticed it was being broadcast and called her to tell her to turn it on.

I am old enough to have watched the movie when it first came to theaters. A co worker told me about it and I took my wife. During the chase scene I could feel my butt coming out of the seat.

andrewb70,

I knew that was trail ridge road before the sign came up. I grew up in CO and we always took our flatlander relatives up there when they came for a visit.

I have a pic from 1938 of my FIL on trail ridge road with his MUSCLE car of the day. I'll see if I can find it and post it.

I had this one when I was 18. I bought this 71 Dart Swinger from a widower who lost his license driving it at a high speed. It was originally plum crazy with a black vinyl top and a black stripe on the tail but he pulled off the top and painted it this color. It has a 318 and an auto and it would haul. It had rare factory 10 inch drums and a 2:73 gear. Off the line I would whip all the kids with the 90's 5.0 Mustangs because while they were getting a lot of wheel spin and losing traction I was already on my way, and those gears let me get way up there for speed. I once beat a Trans Am GTA on the highway at about 130 because he hit the limiter and I had none. It also handled like a cat on the corners. Unfortunately some kid pulled out in front of me on a bike one day and it was either hit him or take a ditch. I put it up on its side but we drove it home. I was going to keep it and put it back together but the unibody was torn like a sheet of paper right behind the driver side door and I could not afford to fix it so I let her go. It had a rare factory Rochester carb instead of the normal Carter which was good for an extra 10 hp and it was only one of 158 with the plum crazy paint and there were none others with those 10 inch drums all the way around (normally it was 9-inch). Galen Govier who did all the research on Mopars in those days could not find another with factory 10 inch drums. I sold it to a guy who had a shop in Jersey and he was going to redo it, I always wanted to see it done up, but I think that would probably be too hard to handle. Someday I would like another.

I actually lived in Estes Park, CO for a number of years. So while I am not a native, I can safely not be called a "flatlander." LOL

I remember ripping up and down HWY 34 to Loveland or HWY 36 to Boulder when I was in HS.

Andrew

P.S. The very first picture was actually taken on Snowy Range in WY.
