I ran a search here for the 1911 9mm S&W pro series and had no hits. Has anyone had any experience or has one that can give me some feed back. I thought it might be a nice gun to have but too expensive to just buy and try.
Thanks in advance, Frank.

I dont have direct experience with the S&W 1911 but i can tell you that traditionally the 1911 came with an internal extractor. Lots of companies tried doing the external and none have actually been very successful except for the S&W E series. The E guns have a wider external extractor than that on the Pro. Not sure about the reliability of the thinner one.

I bought this one last April for $1065 + tax. IMO... a good value for what you get.

Very nice gun. Well put together, fit and finish are great. Quite accurate with my reloads and once I replaced the recoil spring with a 14# to match my reloads, it's been very reliable.

I was unsure about the look of the grips, but the more I use them, the more I like them.

Thanks for the post's people. I am thinking of moving a 4" 686 towards this. Do not know if this would be a good move or not.
Thanks, Frank.

I bought one last week. I put 275 rounds through it on Sunday. No problems, though I'll probably add a fiber optic front sight.

Here's mine with adjustable sights. It runs flawless with Federal American Eagle 124 Gr. AE9AP.

The pre-E series S&W 1911's have external extractors and are quite reliable based on the four I've owned in 45acp. The 9mm pro 1911 is on my short list too.

I shoot the Pro 1911 9mm for IDPA ESP division. I like it so much I bought a second one. Ambi safety, mag well, and checkered front strap are features that can be added to any 1911 but it is a real plus that all of these are part of the package. For me the Roco grips are too fat and were replaced with sets from VZ that have a cut for the mag release. Unfortunately one of mine is on the way back to Smith for failures to extract, but I am sure they will make it right.

Picked my Pro Series on 16th. this month. Have been to range 3 times, 425 rounds. Fit and finish very good. Had slight extractor problems, solved with lighter recoil spring. I have a Wilson CQB Elite 9mm 6 years old wanted another 9mm and did not want to spend that kind of money. The S&W 9mm Pro is a very good 1911 for the price.:)

new here so just want to say hello.
seen the 9mm 1911 that s&w makes on top gun the other night.
i like the idea of a 9mm 1911, and the fact its a smith.
but my question is does smith make it with a threaded barrel. i have tried and fail searching and my contact with smiths pro shop falls on deaf ears. any help in finding this out or where an aftermaket barrel can be found would be appreciated.
i did try stormlake but as i do not own this pistol yet i do not know if it is ramped or not.
any help from here would be greatly appreciated.
