In CCW friendly states, are there a lot of people who actually carry ALL THE TIME?

I live in CA , and always carry off duty. But CA is not a CCW friendly state, so I don't run into many people with CCW.

So I am asking people from states where CCW is easy to get.

West Virginia, I carry a 442 either in my pocket or owb every day with 2 reloads in quickstrips, my wife carries a 66-3 in her purse.
We know a VA couple. The Husband carries a Springfield XD45 tactical owb and his wife carries a Ruger SR22 owb.

If you ever saw me out-and-about, just assume I am always armed. Usually with a CCO 1911 45 or a 357 mag revolver. On duty, its a SIG 226 .40 S&W with a S&W M&P-40c as a BUG.

Yes I carry

always. Any time someone can see me, I have two handguns on my person, at home, away, or at work. Always concealed,

In the state of Indiana, a 'must issue' state, with low cost and no mandatory training, there are lots of permits issued. That said, I doubt 10% of those with permits, carry more than part time.

The follow up question should be, "How many people who are licensed to carry, are practiced enough to carry responsibly?" I fear that with the increasing number of CCW applications being approved, far too many individuals who are able to carry are lulled into a false sense of security by a state issued card and a shiny news handgun from the LGS. I'm an ardent supporter of the 2nd, and encourage people to become involved in the shooting sports (as well as self defense/CCW), but I'm also a pragmatist. Most folks don't have the geographic/economic means to practice sufficiently with their new handguns to be considered competent and responsible CCW holders. With all due respect, a mandatory pre-CCW safety class does not a skilled handgun owner make. I worry that the current generation's CCW is the previous generation's desk drawer gun, and that far too many folks who are carrying are lacking the skills to actually be carrying.

This is strictly opinion-based thinking, MY OPINION ... completely unscientific and lacking in statistical research. It's simply a sense I get.

No permit is required in AZ, but I do have one. Anytime I leave my house, I have a pistol on me. In my house, my pistol is either on my person, or sitting on the end table/night stand right next to me.

I have one friend who carries consistently...my other "shooter" friends do not carry, to the best of my knowledge.

Tim

Many people who are new to CCW begin to carry until the novelty wears off. Then the shiny new toy gets left either in the car or at home most of the time. Full time CCW can be inconvienient as well as uncomfortable, and dressing around the gun is something some folks just cannot bring themselves to do.

WE HAVE AROUND 300,OOO licensees in Ohio. I think very few carry 100% of the time. Along those lines and as a member of Ohioans For Concealed Carry I feel that the hard core carriers are too hard on the average carrying licensee.
So many posts about everyone should shoot weekly or get costly training. IMO, your average licensee just wants to feel safe when they feel they may subject themselves to danger and carry accordingly. I'm not advocating this as,of course,no one knows when danger will approach. The activists carriers are absolutely correct in all their arguments for training, etc.but I don't believe the majority of people with a license has the time or money for such things.
I myself used to carry 100% of the time but after years of trying different holsters and the guns getting smaller and lighter, I probably carry about 80% of the time and can only afford range time every couple months if I'm lucky.

CCW

Luckily I retired from CA and now live in a state that is a "shall issue" state. I carry about 80% of the time and also live on property that I can shoot on. So I get to practice often. My main carry is now a Ruger LCP.

If I am out of the house I have at least a Airweight J frame in my pocket.

Too many years as a paramedic and a few as a reserve LE makes me aware of the evil that is around us. At home my Cocker Spaniel protects me till I can get to the nearest one!!!

Here in Alaska, we can open carry and carry concealed without a CCW Permit. I have my CCW because it looks good whenever I run into a LEO or for reprocity in other states.

I guess I'm the exception in this group.

Have had a CCW for about 20-25 years in more than one state (Ct and Fl). However, I seldom carry. I believe very strongly that if I'm going somewhere where I feel a gun is needed....I have no business going there! Likewise, I believe that a "live chicken lives to run another day", thus not having a gun ensures that I walk away from a situation which I might not if I have my trusty 1911!

Shooting someone is such a major legal hassle (think: George Zimmerman) that I want as little exposure to this as possible. However.... if absolutely unavoidable, I will carry. That's why I have a CCW. But I actively avoid these situations.

If I am dressed I'm carrying. It was the only way I could get used to the extra weight of the handgun.

Now, I only notice it is I don't have it on!!!

Also, I never know when I might be some place where I will need it!

Shootings take place in restaurants, churches, shopping malls, on the streets, etc.

Refuse To Be A Victim..........

Same here...If I am dressed, I am armed 98% of the time. My issued/authorized Glocks (23 and 27) work most of the time. Since my employer does not permit revolvers for any purpose anymore, my 4" M10 RB tapered barrel and my M60 no dash are verboten for carry on the badge. There are certain modes of dress (i.e tuxedo) which cry for a round revolver rather than a square, chunky Glock...Oh, well...time to finally get that CHP and carry anything legal that I choose.

Every day, 100% of the time, even at home. A 637 out and about and, Model 64 at home. Indiana is a shall issue state and "No Firearms" signs hold no force of law.
Cheers
