Unable to punch or run im dreams?!

I did not think one was able to control their dream, i would really like to know how. These are some good responses though

We all have a built in fight or flee response, sounds like you are being stripped of this in the dream.Leaving only your ability to reason and communicate.
My best guess would be, there is someone in your life that you cannot fight or run away from, but because this is a recurring dream you also have problems communicating with or having them understand who and what you are.
Could be someone who passed away when you were younger but most likely someone close to you.

I actually took off running across the house in my dream when I was a kid. When I was about 10 my uncle took me to see "Jaws" when it just came out. That night I was having the usual nightmares and while asleep I actually ran out of my bedroom across the living room and crashed head first into our stereo turn table cabinet and messed up one of the big speakers..lol..the next night in my dream all the sharks were on the beach and people were in the water to keep safe.
I have slept on one of my arms occasionally laying under me which cut off the circulation and leaving my arm basically dead and dangling when I woke up until the blood comes back and you squeal in agony..When this happens I seem to dream my arm was cut off..

My dreams are too realistic and mundane now. About the time I stopped having "fantasy" dreams I learned to make my mind work enough to control my self in the dream or the dream itself... except the spiders... can never stop the spiders...

I wish I was unable to punch or run. My wife wakes me up mad because my legs are thrashing or I've been punching the wall. Jeeez, you'd think she WANTS the giant spider to catch me.

I'm so glad to read this thread! For years I had recurring dreams of being in some trouble or other, and trying to throw a punch or run felt just like I was doing it in slow motion; like under water.

Also, even for years after graduating high school, I dreamed over and over that i got on the school bus either naked or in my underwear.

I assumed I was the only one, and mentally disturbed in some way. Probably still the case, but I am glad to see I'm not alone.

As I quickly approach 40, I find I rarely have dreams anymore.

That is right on the dot, i get so frustrated when i wake up knowing i should be whooping butt in my dreams. But i have yet to have the naked dream. If i am correct though, you dream every night but you only remember the dream if you have completed it. I can remember dreams i had 2 months ago

Oh man thats great. Its never a good thing when you have to ask her the next morning where those bruises came from.

I don't know about that. I can vividly remember a few dreams I never got to "complete".:)

One night my first wife, who only slept in her bottoms, sat straight up in bed yelling. Scared the do do out me. "What's the matter?" "There are snakes in the bed, there are snakes in the bed!", she yelled. Next thing I know I hear her running down the hall of the trailer and the front door opening then slamming shut. A minute later she calmly walks back into the bedroom. "How far did you get?" "Half way across the front yard."

Oh, you can control a dream and dream in color. Was having one dream stopped it and adjusted the color like on an old tv then continued.

Another one the bad guys found me, started over from the start and changed my tactics, after about the 5th time I finally prevailed.

Worst dreams are loading a revolver, bad guy approaching and the entire bullet slides out the barrel like a .32 out of a .45 LC...

I also once had the numb arm deal where I dreamed a rattlesnake bit me and I suddenly came awake and realized much to my relief that I was o.k. Did you have some of those strange looking mushroom for supper too?

Dreams

I used to dream some one was after me, now that I'm old I dream that I'm after some one and cant get a hold of them. Back in the 1960's after I got my private pilots license I would have this dream/nightmare that I was flying a Piper Tri Pacer and made it climp to steep and caused a stall/spin and I could not make it stop spinning, I would wake up as it hit the ground, this is crazy as any pilot knows you can not spin a tri pacer. I can wake up fully in the middle of a dream and go back to sleep and pick up right where I left off. Kinda like a pause button. It makes for some wild dreams.

Also, I don't know if I mentioned it in another dream thread but I fix things in my dreams. I've worked out some serious problems in my dreams and it amazes me when it happens. My wife claims that I'm always turning wrenches in my sleep.

I have had those dreams, also the falling dream where you wake up before you hit the ground. Did you ever have the naked dream; you are in front of a bunch of people buck naked and it ain't a nudist colony?
I've had those kind of naked dreams. I'm naked and trying to get to my clothes, nobody seems to care or mind but I'm frantically trying to cover up.

One real dramatic dream I had many years ago sticks out. There were terrorists parachuting down over the house. I ran outside and started picking them off above the trees. It felt so real, and when I woke up my heart was racing, and I was sweating like crazy. The only thing I attribute to that dream was too much Baileys on the rocks the night before. Who knows.

I've had dreams where I felt like I was running in mud, just bogged down or I'd punch someone in the mouth as hard as I could and it just turns out to be a light tap.
Now with my neuropathy, I dream that everything works right but I keep leaving my snubby behind. Last night I had a dream that I was working in my garage and 2 thugs come walking up. I reach for my gun, then remember I left it in the house.

I have "leg/arm/body jolt" ones at times. My ex wife used to get so pissed... One I've had my whole life at times is a sense if falling forever then waking up very hard....

Anybody else not able to run or punch in a dream? If so why is this, this has bothered me for countless years now and i have never bothered to ask why this is.

Sir, as I understand it, dreams are your subconscious mind sorting out your waking life. So it's common to have work dreams, dreams about mundane daily life things, fear dreams, pretty much anything you experience.

Nightmares are your subconscious trying to sort out something you're afraid of or anxious about. It need not even be a real thing--it could be a fear of zombies, a disease you don't have, whatever. When you can't fight back or get away, that usually indicates something that you're feeling frustrated or helpless about.

One thing that helps is to discuss the dream with someone; just the act of talking about it while you're awake, whether you figure out a solution or not, seems to help. Another thing that helps, if you can do it, is to confront the fear during the dream itself. For example, if you're dreaming that something's chasing you, stop and ask it why it's chasing you. Both methods have worked for me.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Good post... I've experienced all of the above..and one more. For some reason, in a dream..I cannot scream for the life of me. Sometimes for certain dreams I need to scream. But can't. Very frustrating.

Once I dreamed I ate a HUGE vitamin. Woke up and my pillow was gone!!

I'm here all week. Tip your waitress please.

Roger
