I had a great day today at the Akron gun show.
I traded a Glock for a nice model 15-3 snubby even up.
A Colt Cobra for SW model 36 Chief's special from the 1960's
and a SW 35 auto for $250.

So technically.. I entered the show with no S&Ws and left with 3... for $250 out of pocket. The Cobra-Chief Special deal was about as even as they get. IMO
The Glock 17 for the Model 15-3 was the steal of the day! IMO

I do love these shows. :D

See, there IS a reason to own a Glock! Some folks just don't understand blue steel and walnut. And a great find on the 35 too! I've been looking for one, kinda hard to come by!

Yes, you did extremely well! If the stocks on the M36 are matching s/n it is a post 68 gun.

Hondo nice eye..the stocks are correctly numbered. 36 is post 68..actually 1969 by my records. s/n 7373xx I bought 2 nice guns recently where the transition from diamond manas to plain was so close it hurt. A model 27-2 "S311xxx was one of the last S guns produced in 1968/69 and just missed being a diamond and this 36.

Glad you had a good day at the show, though personally, I'd rather have the Cobra over a M36 any day.
I didn't like the Cobra, it was a 2nd model from 1979....too light like a model 37. It's a Colt "air-weight" basically. Except you get 6 shots...their value is almost identical. At least what I paid for it. and I am a model 36 / J frame fan. Now if it were an early Colt DS or an early Cobra 1st model I wouldn't have traded.
Muley Gil that's why I said both parties got what they wanted.
Some folks are colt fans, others are S&W. I see the same discussion between Pythons and Model 27s

I kind of had the same thought about the model 36/Cobra trade. I like j-frames, but the colt Detective Spl, Cobra, & Agent generally seem to command higher prices than a comparable Smith. Of course, it's all about condition, but I've seen beater Colts in the mid-600's at local gun shows when reasonably nice j-frames were asking mid-4's. (both too high IMHO, that's why I'm not so hot on gun shows these days)
Interesting that you like the earlier Colts-- I prefer the post-1966 short-butts & for that matter would rather have an even later one (1973-on) with the shrouded ejector rod. I did get a good buy on a 1968-ish short-butt DS last summer, but decided to just stick with Chief Specials (for now anyway) and sold it off to a friend.

Welcome to the swap a Glock for K Frame club. I traded a G22 straight across for a 4" 19-5 a few years back. I don't think I would have done the Cobra/Cheif's deal though. I have a couple of Cobra's (one with factory shroud) and Agent, and a DS as well as a couple of Police Positives and like them all. I do have the obligatory 642 though for actual carry.;) That 15-3 is a right good looking little feller, you should be very proud.

I picked up a 98% Cobra at a GS about 2 months ago, $500 OTD, grips are pristine! Best deal I've made in quite a while, except for the Colt Trooper I got out of a pawn for $400 OTD, 95% !
