Will the 15-22 fall under an AWB?

I have a 10/22 That has a Tapco stock. It would fall under the same category probably. Mine isn't black, I Duracoted it tactical foliage green.

Yeah, my guess would be a ban on >10 round mags, maybe some incredibly goofy bans on pistol grips/foregrips on rifles and collapsible stocks. I hear a heck of a lot of (incorrect from my POV) talk about how the AR-15 was designed to kill a whole bunch of people as quickly as possible (wasn't a large part of the 5.56/.223 design decision in the M-16 made around the thought that killing an enemy only takes him out of the fight, wounding him takes 3?), so maybe a specific ban on them ???

God help us if they try to make it retro active, I think we'd see a whole bunch of shootouts w/ the ATF/FBI/Local LE ensue when they come to take them from hardcore non-compliant owners.

Kinda sad as I personally think if changes are going to be made, the ones with the most direct effect on reducing the chances of future tragedies would be around closing gun show loop holes, more extensive background checks and psychological evals prior to purchase, mandatory safety classes and re-certification, and requirements for secure storage and legal culpability for negligence. None of the talk I'm hearing from congress-critters and very little from the media seems to be centered around these though, just about bannning "evil" "military" "assault weapons".

Reduced mag capacities ensure that the killer has to reload more, so could have some effect on the magnitude casualties but only if someone is there that will take advantage of the break in fire to stop them. I see pretty much zero practical application of bans on furniture and aesthetics (unless we're talking a slidefire stock or something).

Just my .02 though, sorry if it's inappropriate/unpopular...

No, and at the end of the day no "AW" Ban either.

Examining what's out there law-wise, closing loopholes, mental health issues, parenting, and just mankind's bent to wickedness and violence will be long term discussion topics. They need to be - must be. :(

See THIS knife violence article in China. The whole of these tragedies are issues of the "heart" - not the tools used.

I'd suspect there will be a ban on all mags containing more than 10 rounds. It is also possible they could call for a "turn in" program for all high cap mags giving a voucher for a round replacement...not impossible to do or carry out.
It is also possible they are going to make it very difficult for the average citizen to buy any type of AR weapon...I wonder if they will try to go for license similar to a hand gun.

Unfortunately it won't solve problems and situations like Sandy Hook. The shooter stole the guns from mom who bought the guns legally and apparently passed the investigation portion of the hand gun license/permit rules. So in this case the laws would not prevent this from happening.

Perhaps what is more important and what should be done to reduce this type of gun violence is for all legal gun owners to use a trigger lock and/or store their weapons in a secured container...safe, etc...until used.
While a law could be passed requiring such a thing it would be nearly impossible to enforce other than heavily penalize someone who's gun(s) are stolen/used in a crime/etc and were not stored in a safe and had no trigger locks...in the case of the mother she paid the price with her life...
If you are concerned about defense you can have your gun of choice for defense unlocked and accessible when you are home but otherwise it is secured.
I was negligent in this area but no more. All guns are secured.

If we want the right to own guns we must also have the responsibility to secure them so no one can hurt them self or others by accident or on purpose. I think that is fair and something we can all do.

Unfortunately this is going to be a very hot button subject for some time. I only hope cooler heads prevail when considering laws...on both sides of the issue. We can all participate by contacting our Senators and Congress people telling them we want fair laws that recognize our Second Amendment rights while doing their best to safe guard the public.

Just an observation, but I'm sure some of you have shot something that is full-auto, so you know it takes some technique to control. Most of these shooter types do not seem to have much firearms training other than CoD video games and such. An actual "Assault Weapon" might result in less carnage due to inaccurate and rapid dumping of ammo vs. more accurate timed semi-auto fire...

(My point being that assault weapons might not pose as deadly a threat as politically indicated, not that semi-autos should be banned in any way. You can't easily or effectively legislate intent. Just making sure that's crystal clear. Long live guns.)

Only if you allow an AWB to be instituted.

So long as the left is controlling the debate we have no chance of retaining our gun rights. We must encourage our lawmakers to propose a law that requires owners of multiple guns to own a gun safe.....or we can expect to be asked to turn them in.

The argument is NOT about assault weapons it's about securing the weapon we have regardless of their classification. A gun in a gun safe cannot hurt anyone.....and our country without a 2nd amendment is no longer OUR (we the people's) country.

Nomex suit is on....flame me!

I have another question.........if Washington did elect to have a magazine turn in for high capacity mags, any over 10 rounds, how would they handle my 1978 Marlin Model 60 semi-auto that holds 18 rounds in the built in mag tube or my Marlin bolt action .22wmr that hold 13 rounds in the built in mag tube? How would a ban on these "hunting rifles" be addressed? They're going to have to go back to the grandfather rule.

Boys,

I don't like, for the most part, what I am reading here. I have a LOT of guns. Four safes. Now are ya'll telling me that if the dope headed, drug dealin kid that lives down the road from Charlie Sherrill breaks into my house, breaks into one of my fireproof safes with a cuttin torch and goes out and does harm with my Marlin Camp Carbine 9 that I will be responsible? A couple of you writers appear to be falling into the "trap". "Lets panic and give in and maybe they will go away." NOT. WON'T HAPPEN. I suggest you look at another remedy.

I have been around a long time. Don';t know a whole lot, but I know this type of thinking is not gonna cut it.

Just to clarify I support legal culpability for NEGLIGENT storage, not for the "a safe cracker broke into my house and somehow managed to bypass all of my reasonable provisions for security of my weapons and then went and shot someone w/ them" scenario.

Personally, I'm not panicking or giving in. My opinions are my own.

Sid ole boy,

Since I live alone there is no such thing as negligent storage from myself in my own home. Is the next step steel entry doors and burglary bars on Windows to keep out footpads and neer do wells? How bout makin it mandatory life in prison if you break into MY private home and steal My gun? Now there is an idea whose times come!!! Why is the burden placed on me the law abiding gun owner?

I also see an eventual ban on magazines with more than 10 rounds, though I do not think it would be retroactive, like the last time.

I have never used a Ruger 10/22, but know many people who have. From what I understand, it will fire just as many rounds, just as quickly as a 15-22. The only significant difference is the appearance.

I wish more states would pass legislation similar to what was passed by voters in Louisiana.

The problem with the AWB is that if we give in to it, what will be next? We will have opened the door for the government to push it further. No more mag's exceeding 10 rnds. next it will be mags not to exceed 7 rounds. And on it continues. Just remember if they take our guns they can control everything in our lives with no worry of revolt.

In Connecticut there is NO difference between the 15-22 and an AR15 as far as our AWB laws are concerned.

It's the same in NY. Oddly enough, I don't think California holds rimfire under the same restrictions.

TacoDaTugBoat: No. Ex post facto laws are UNCONSTITUSTIONAL to do so would mean making millions of criminals instantly. You cannot get a parking ticket, for parking in a spot that was legal when you parked there, but somehow deemed illegal before you left it. You are more likely to see restrictions on private transfers and such. But that part is all speculation.
