The Journal News in Westchester County NY "foiled" the names and addresses of all permit holders and posted them on their website today. They even put an interactive map on the website so people can see if anyone in their neighborhood has a permit. I can't believe it's come to this.

I'm planing to start legal action over this one.

Now permit holders are right there next to the sex offender map. If they needed something to fill thier rag of a paper they would have been better served if they made a map of convicted violent felons!!!!!!

I hope you 'own' that newspaper after the lawsuit. Have you checked with the NRA-ILA?

Sounds like their motto should be "To Protect And Serve, The Guilty"

Yeah, they'll cite open access and public records laws. But it doesn't take much to show a "harm" has been done to someone by publishing personal information that they had no expectation of becoming public. I hope they (the paper) lose their first amendment rights ;)

Find a shovel and a place dogs do their business. Then collect a shovel full and put it in their newspaper stands. Pay the amount to get a paper, and take one, but give them back a load of dog dirt. Its only fair they know everyone doesn't approve of their brand of journalism. You can't do much about what they print, but you can call their advertisers and inform them they're no longer on your list of places to buy. It tells them the money they spend on paper advertising loses them customers, but doesn't gain them.

These are much more PC than just shooting at the editors and reporters as they exit their building.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette does, or at least did, the same thing. I haven't subscribed to that rag since Iowa became "shall issue", so don't know if they still do it or not, but our names were also being published on a regular basis.

While I would be upset if they published my name and address, I would think the people not on the list would be more upset. Hey newspaper idiots, you just told the bad guys where the people live who don't have protection in their houses and endangering families. I would think that would be more of grounds for a lawsuit.

I'm going to contact them tomorrow.

Chris, if there's anything at all that I can do, besides complain to the newspaper, please let me know.
I was looking on the list for my name, seems they didn't get anywhere with my county clerk....for now.

Agreed. The other danger here is for retired cops...now all the mopes they put in jail can find them and their families.

Criminals will need to make an appointment to break in and steal these folks gun now. Need to steal a firearm? Heres a list of where they are.

Actually the permit owners need to post the addresses of top news people execs and the in their front yards or on a billboard in the center of town with message on how they are anti-gun and safe to plunder.

Thanks Mike. Time for me to move to Putnam County!!!!

The last time they tried this tactic up here, the clerk told them nothing was computerized and they'd have to wait for a list. That was quite a few years ago. :) I don't think their efforts will be successful this time either. The Sheriff and Judge around here are pro gun.

The Sheriff's offices here sent out notices to the CCW holders asking them if they would give permission for the release of personal info. You can guess how that went.

Actually, we did that. Didn't put it on a billboard. Just posted it to the net. It's easy information to find. Use the paper's masthead and then your local tax assessor's office to find the addresses, etc.

Also get and publish the non-editorial people's names and addresses. They got extremely irate when they found themselves lumped in with the editorial people. There is a lot of info on the net. Be creative. Use it.
