What is your favorite gun for concealed carry? Why?

The one I am carrying. It depends on what I am wearing, where I am going and what I am doing. But I always have something with me....

My favorite is this Clark/Dietrich custom Colt 1991A1 Compact. It's 100% reliable, very accurate, great action, and looks damn good, too.

Then, I met the Clock 33. It carries 9 + 1 in .357 Sig.

The Clock ads don't call it a "pocket rocket" without good reason.

Maybe the search is over! :)

I dallied with the 33 for a spell.

Carried W-W Ranger Ts in it....Found it to be up for the task at hand.

Good choice all around.

For many years, due to agency policy I have been forced to carry a Glock, in my case a model 27, though I have no complaints about it. The pistol is reliable, powerful, has a good capacity, and easy to hide.

I have been a police officer for over 29 years, ~this close to 30~, and remember the days of the revolver when we only had 18 rounds on our person, and I even remember the days of drop boxes, before those newfangled speed loaders.

My first carry gun, concealed or otherwise was a 4-inch Smith Model 19, .357, though they made us carry .38 ammo on-duty. I loved that gun and still do.

We later switched to 4-inch Smith Model 64 stainless models and then Ruger Police Service Six .357s. Though I did like the cylinder release on the Rugers, I still preferred Smith as it was just a more elegantly made revolver.

Now that I am getting ready to retire and have a CC permit for my gun business and will have a LEOSA permit, I can carry whatever I want and I selected a Smith & Wesson Model 686 SSR Pro, .357, 4-inch when I'm not too concerned with it remaining unseen, and a Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 327 in .357 magnum, when concealment is necessary and this time around they are both loaded with .357. ;)

Off duty, I always have my Colt Combat Commander with me on my strong (right) side, as well as my 640 on my inside left ankle or in my left front pocket, especially if I'm wearing shorts. If it is pretty warm, I have just have the 640 in the left front pocket of my shorts.

I'm issued a Glock 22 at work, which I despise with a passion. I despise all Glocks with a passion. My commander was approved as an official secondary/off duty firearm until recently, when it was deemed "unsafe," by the SAC...........because it is a 1911. The commander was always on at work if I was at my desk, on the snowmobile, KTM or horseback, unless I was in full uniform on patrol in the pick-up.

But, they can't dictate what I carry off duty, so I'm good for the commander :P

I run Speer 230 gr. Gold Dots for .45 ACP and 129 gr. Federal Hydra-Shoks for .38 Special +P.

I run the Commander in a High Noon Slide Guard, Milt Sparks 55BN or 1AT and the 640 in an Alessi ankle holster.

642 or 640-1 with Hip Grips and extra speed strips. 5 rounds in hand is better than a glove box full o' guns.

I've carried some sort of j Frame as a BUG/ off duty weapon since 1978. I started with a M-60 w/ bobbed hammer and Jeff Coopers recommended load, then a 640, back to the M60, then to a 638 and for the last 9 years a 642. Best bug I ever had, rides well in the pocket or anywhere else. I also still have the 638 that is a bug for the bug.

CC Gun

Just can't help myself. This little 642 with smoothed action and CT grips is the Bee's Knee's.

No light trigger just SMOOTH.

I'd love to carry the 686 or the 625 but for ease of carry versus power it's hard to beat the 642.

I shoot it often and load some 158 LSWC over 3.3 of 231 for making holes in paper.

When it get home I put the good stuff in.

Just a great little carry piece.

Dan :D

M&p 9c. Fantastic ergonomics, confident with it, 13 rounds of +p and a spare mag. Carries just lovely in an MTAC. I'm 5ft 3 140lbs and it conceals under a t shirt just as good as my kahr cw9. 9c is a great balance of fire power, size, and shoot ability.im always searching for the next best carry gun and I simply cannot find one. I do carry a 642 when I can't do the 9c or for quick dog walks etc.

My favorite to carry is a S&W M&P 340. I carry it in my pocket and can put my hand in my pocket and grip the revolver when I get nervous and not be accused of brandishing, or worse. I also like that it can shoot .357 magnums and carry one in the 5th chamber. I do not have to count my shots, for I know when I have fired 5 when that .357 magnum discharges.

My CCW is every day carry and I have never had to use it. For a carry I find it very unobtrusive and cannot see me picking anything else, unless I am in the outback, then my carry is a .44 magnum N-Frame.

Smith model 49 or 649. You can fire reliably from a jacket pocket or carry it in a pants pocket and you can still cock it...if you want. It's sorta roundy-like so it won't hang up in your pocket and it fits in there perfectly with a Mika pocket holster.

They just always seemed to go with with the Model 10 I came on with and the carbine and 870 I always carried:

I rotate between my Ruger SR9c, Bersa Thunder .380, and Bersa Thunder .32 don't believe in carrying anything over 9mm. These will protect me.

Kahr K40 - This is my primary off-duty weapon. Slim, accurate, reliable, and it fits my hand well. 6+1 with a 7 round mag in reserve, I figure it will probably handle anything I encounter that doesn't require a shotgun or rifle.

Glock 23 - My issue duty weapon that I occasionally carry off duty.

S&W 642 - It's my BUG on duty and the gun I drop in my pocket (in a Mika holster, of course) if I run to the store for a gallon of milk. I have been know to have it on me as a BUG off-duty.

I'm never considered "off-duty," so I carry what is authorized (qualified immunity is priceless). Usually a Glock 21 (.45 ACP) and a Glock 27 (.40 S&W) as a back-up. Sometimes I'll carry the Glock 22 (.40 S&W) if the clothing makes the 21 difficult to hide.

My first duty weapon was a S&W Model 27-3 4", still have it and it is one of may all time favorites.

Prior to this job I carried a Colt Combat Elite in .45 ACP. However, when I finally retire (going on 27 years now), my carry guns will be one of these:
  • Wilson Combat CQB .45 ACP (because it is reliable, and darned accurate).
  • Colt Combat Elite .45 ACP reworked by Wilson.
  • S&W Model 657 3"

The 1911's are ergonomic miracles, are easy to conceal, and carry a sufficiently powerful and controllable round. The 657 is a thing of beauty and the .41 Magnum is about as good a man-stopper as one can find.

Well I know the feeling, finding the perfect carry is an evolutionary experience...in other words you go through quite a few til you find what is just right for you. That over time is also subject to change! :-)
That Being said, I am a big bore guy or a "Brick Chucker" as one of my old buddies used to say (he was of the light and fast mind set). That being said "For me" When possible I carry my Glock 20 tungston guide rod and spring, KKM precision barrel 15 rd mag (200 grn XTP JHP 1200 fps) in a IWB comp-Tac Infidel holster. I also sometimes carry my Smith UDR N frame 8 shot 357 (158grn hydrashok) in an OWB under a loose shirt or light jacket. Depending on Winter ,fall sometimes into spring conditions and lastly a glock 26 but I use a 15 shot mag Fed 147grn JHP and mag sleeve which sits along the gut ie...wearing shorts tiding a bike in the warmer weather etc... Just my personal prefernces!

I carry a Glock 23 off-duty. But since this is a S&W site, I occasionally carry my 6906. When going out-on-the-town with the wife I take my Walther PPK. Must be a "Bond" thing.

For me, if going lightweight, it's one of these.
Currently the M438 has Crimson Trace LG-405's
and is my night-time lightweight.

My primary, which has withstood many challengers
trying to knock it out of the top spot, is this one.

I don't know what it is, but the 2.5" Model 66
is about as close to perfection as one can get. ;)

As a NY gas station owner some 30+ years ago, I carried a Colt Cobra. Still have the gun but just one of several for home protection.

Bought a 1st Gen Kel-Tec P-32 when they first came out. Since I now live in FL where warm weather clothing conceals less, I find that P-32 in my front right pocket, almost daily. The OP asked why we carry what we carry... the P-32 weighs just 7 ounces. I often wind up wearing it around the house because I just don't know it's there.

I load it with 70 grain FMJ... with such a small caliber, I'm looking for penetration rather than expansion.

Now... if only I could hit something with it...

I carry two J frame 38 Special revolvers. Gun(s) are very light, allow for pocket carry (BUG); and are in a proven caliber. Primary is IWB at 4o'clock and BUG in left front pants pocket. In fall and winter primary is in right coat pocket; BUG in inside left breast pocket. This "system" works very, very well for me. I am conscious that YMMVH.
