What is your favorite pocket/concealed carry from the 60s-80s?

Before CCW permits, I pocket carried a NAA .22. Yeah, I know, but better than harsh words. It stays in the safe now. Then the micro .380s for a long time. Now my EDC is a Glock 19. I have a nickel S&W 38, but seldom carry it.

Always in pocket when landscape work 20+yrs. On second holster & replaced w/larger grips. My 'get off me gun'. Still in pocket at home. Make a nasty hole if necessary.20230408_091252.jpg

I no longer own either of them but a Benelli vest pocket .22 Long and a Colt Jr. .25 a.c.p. were concealable, reliable and accurate within 10-12 yards.

Other than nostalgia, there's not a strong argument to carry the older item.

Harrumph.

I didn't think to add photos to my first post.

My first bright blue Chiefs Special (ca. 1956) and my 1964 from the Clara & Frederick Toppan collection (University of Wyoming).

Old-fashioned? Yes.

Nostalgic? Yeah, maybe.

Lethal? Absolutely. With luck I'll never need to prove that.

Beretta 950, back before people became immune to 25acp.

A Colt Junior .25ACP that lasted less than a month before I sold it to a friend.

I bought a nickel .38 Colt Detective Special that I carried for more than 3 decades in a Roy Baker holster.

My original BU/OD was a model 60. I've never been fond of pocket carry and carried it in a Bianchi leather thumb break IWB holster with a metal clip. However, once the 669 came out that was my BU/OD for many years.

I have been known to carry a P3AT in my riding jacket inside chest pocket.

I've always been a fan of revolvers and carried one on duty almost my whole career but for concealed carry a semi-auto is king.

I will on occasion still carry a 69 snub or even my 629 Trail Boss concealed IWB in leather but not often. A 60 still gets carried on my hip when in my woods for snakes.

My carry over the years has varied mostly with my circumstances, partly with my attempted evaluation of reality, and to some extent with my physical limitations.

I do not have much concern over your friend's vision of landscape, nor do I see that "modern" alternatives are much of an improvement. Certainly, there are more autoloaders today that are both reliable and carry more than a dozen rounds in the first magazine, but there has been at least one of those since 1935.

Meanwhile, revolvers have their advantages for some. Even striker-fired pistols have an excuse for their existence, but an emphasis on which pistols one chooses to carry ignores what I believe to be more important, which is user skill and suitability of the chosen pistol for the task at hand.

For most of us, the first requirement is that the pistol be carried. The second is that it be safe to be carried, and safe to be loaded and unloaded under whatever personal circumstances exist. It would also be nice if the pistol fit the user's hand, and could be drawn quickly and fired accurately when needed.

This does not tell me what revolver or slab-side pistol someone else should choose most often, but it does tell me what I should choose most often. My handle does not indicate a collection focus, but a carry preference.

66-3

I have made an offer here locally on a 2 1/2 inch Mod 66-3 that if I get it will be my new carry gun.

I have always been a fan of the pocket gun- the gun you can always carry, even without a shirt on for cover, in any weather or wardrobe. The notion noted above you will hav3 it when you need it as opposed to a bigger gun.
I have carried a couple 25's, a few 22 autos, some J frames, and ruger LCPII in 380. They all could do the job for sure, but am actually looking to go to an air weight J as it does have a few advantages over the ruger. My only J right now is a 2" 34 which I shoot extremely well. But a heavier caliber ( even if only 5 shots) makes more sense. I do prefer old guns and would likely look for an older alloy J ( model 38 or 42) trouble is finding one.
