What is your favorite pocket/concealed carry from the 80s-Presents?

I answered the other one with my Model 60. It's still a great gun along with two speed strips. However, my Glock 43 spends as much or more time with me when I'm not in a situation for IWB carry. When I'm wearing a jacket my Glock 29 or Sig P239 go along....

Fifty years of J frames. #36 then Airweight, an early Titanium .38 J frame. The Air Lite became to much with arthritic hands and moved back to a 442-1 no lock. Very rarely carry in a pocket, always holster 4 o'clock. Because it's even smaller and lighter I also will carry a Glock 42. I shoot it very well, but I'm not really a fan of striker fired weapons. Much prefer DAO revolvers. That's my safe, happy place.

KelTec P-11 Can use S&W 59 and 69 series mags, which is why it was a common back-up for LEOs carrying a 59xx or 69xx duty weapon.

Not only does a pocket holster keep the gun oriented correctly, keeps dirt and lint to a minimum and disguises the shape, it more importantly keeps the trigger covered! I'd never carry any gun without a holster.

ABSOLUTELY agreed - 1,000%
The only exception for me is my favorite pair of Duluth Firehose cargo pants. They have what I presume is meant to be a watch pocket inside the right front pocket. The slide and trigger guard of my P3AT fit into it perfectly, so I sometimes carry it in that watch pocket instead of using a holster. Kind of like a sewn-in pocket holster.
I wish more of my pants came with that feature.

Favorite carry gun from the 1980s? Walther PPK/S

I carried a PPK/S clear into 2019, when I retired it in favor of the smaller, lighter Ruger LCP. I still love the Walther PPK/S, and Walther would only bring back the PPK/L with a lightweight Aluminum Alloy or Polymer Frame chambered in .380 ACP, then I would happily retire the LCP for one.

Unfortunately, that clearly isn't happening, so I'll just stick with my LCP and my M&P Shield for my lightweight, concealed carry needs.

Not for nothin, but when you mention the idea of Walther introducing a PPK variant in a polymer frame, I just have to ask… Did you ever FIRE that Walther?! I don't know what it is about the PPK, but for some reason even in an all steel configuration, those guns seem to exhibit a LOT more felt recoil than most people would expect from such a large/heavy .380 pistol. I personally think they are great guns, and they are aesthetically pleasing. But, I can't imagine that a polymer frame PPK would be much fun at all.

For almost 25+ years I carried, on my firearms record, a S&W M49 then a M649 as a duty backup gun either in my left front uniform trouser pocket or in a Galco Ankle Glove holster. For a short while I also carried the same as my off duty gun. I transitioned over to semi-autos for off duty carry by the mid-eighties. When I retired, I figured that I would have no use for my old M649 so I sold it to one of my older retired Sergeants. I regretted selling the old M649 the first winter after selling it, when I found it would have been really convenient to have the old M649 to drop in the pocket of my Carhart winter coat while out and about and doing my chores. I bought a Ruger LCR and it was ok but it just wasn't the same as my old M649. Just about 2 weeks ago I found a used but well taken care of M649-1 in the box, on the big auction site and all is well with the world again.

1980s ...... was my "gun of the month" period. Never pocket carried. Some form of Walther PPK for suit carry..... ended with a stainless PPK in .380 replaced by a 3913 at the close of the decade. IWB in a Sparks Summer Special.

4" Colt Diamondback, then a 2 1/2" 19 then a 3" 65 and finally a 3"66-3

Indeed I have, and I know precisely what you're talking about. I actually split my knuckle open the first time I took it out to the range after about 100 rounds of it slapping into it.

The reason why the PPK/S has such snappy recoil despite being all steel and chambered in .380 ACP is due to the fact that it's a Straight Blowback design, ergo the only thing holding the action shut until the pressure goes down to safe levels is the combined mass/weight of the Slide/Recoil Spring. Furthermore, because of the way that the PPK/S disassembles, when that slide comes back it is impacting directly into the trigger guard post, so all that energy gets transferred straight back into the web of the shooter's hand.

The PPK/S is easily my harshest recoiling handgun and that's rather remarkable seeing as I own/shoot the following:

* Smith & Wesson M&P40 Shield (.40 S&W)
* Taurus Judge Magnum (.410 Bore Shotshells / .45 Long Colt)
* Heckler & Koch USP45 Elite (.45 ACP / .45 Super)

That being said, a Polymer Framed PPK would require a redesign, as there's just no way that a polymer frame is rigid enough to withstand the energy transfer.

I usually IWB because I hate bulk in my jeans pockets but I broke down and picked up a Nemesis. Came today. Works nicely with my 442 and 5.11 work pants.

Eh…tried it….not my cup of tea…a bit bulky. I'll stick with my skimpy thin no brand name I found in my holster box.
