Where was the NRA back in '94?

This is not intended to be sarcastic or demeaning. I was just out of high school the last time the AWB passed. I lived in my own little world back then and knew nothing of politics. We now face the toughest fight in history to protect the 2nd amendment. I have recently joined the NRA, however I wonder what happened in '94? What other groups are out there that may be able to help? What can we do that we failed to do the last time. I do understand that this is a different fight, I think a lot more is on the line this time, so I'm a little reluctant to hang all my hopes on the NRA who must have been ineffective back in '94. I know that last statement will anger a few, I truly mean no disrespect. I'm looking to examine what went wrong in '94, so we can avoid repeating it.

Last time, all of you youngun's that are pissed off now weren't old enough to know better. And, just like last time, there are bunches and bunches of new folks that are becoming involved for the first time. Our ranks swell each and every time. Last time gave rise to such organizations as the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America and many other pro 2nd groups that felt, in some small or large way, that the NRA failed and was not aggressive enough. Maybe, but the NRA sure learned what didn't work.

Hopefully, there will be enough of us this time to stop it.

For that matter where was the NRA in 1986 when they let the Hughes Amendment go through without one voice of opposition?

Any more the NRA's prime purpose is to protect its cash cow, will they throw the AR owners under the bus like they did the NFA owners in 1986? The past example shows when push comes to shove they probably will.

The NRA was responsible for the sunset provision of the '94 ban. The power of the NRA to affect legislation is proportionate to the membership it has, so they did pretty good there; iirc membership at that time was around 1M. So thank you for joining, and encourage others to do so. We need to voice our opposition to all new restrictions through all available means, so join pro 2A organizations, write your elected officials, and don't let up!

I know, I watched the vote being taken. Still it has been 26 years and not yet in all those years has the NRA taken any of the steps it promised at the time to address the amendment.

It you try to speak to the NRA about it they act as if it never happened. Silence is a form of approval.

I know a lot of people want to hold the NRA to account on legislation that occurred in '34, '68, '86, '94 etc. No question that they weren't as proactive as they should have been, especially in '86. But, in their defense, the leadership is a reflection of the membership. If you want the issues that are important to you to be addressed, you need to be a member and let the leadership know. Become a Life Member, and vote for Directors that will fight on your behalf. It's always been this way. No participation = No say.

HRA members. And they wonder Why the local legislators and LEOs are Anti

2A. The police Estimate that there over a Million guns in Hawaii.

Those guys are their own worst enemy and they're unwilling to do anything

really meaningful like joining and putting $$ into the Pro 2A pac.

The Legislature will open in several weeks.

The Antis have their agenda planned out. These guys haven't a clue on

How to deal with them. I feel that the Antis will bulldozer some really Bad

I moved to Oregon from Hawaii 15 years ago, so I know your pain. I grew up there, and know Max and Harvey from both HRA and also because Harvey lived next door to a good friend. I hope you guys can hold the line, and at least not end up like CA, NJ or NY. Stay in touch with your legislators, and keep on fighting for your rights!

Other organizations would have stepped in to fill the void. Now we only have a huge special interest mainly concerned with itself charged with helping us all.

No other organizations have the clout of the NRA. I am a member of many other gun right organizations, but you are deluded if you think any other groups have the influence of the NRA. If you have any issues with the way they represent gun owners rights, then I suggest you become a member and vote for directors that will represent your views. Anything else is just sitting on the sidelines and complaining, while your rights are being trashed.

The bottom line with the NRA is keeping the money coming in. Uncle Wayne does not want the Golden Goose that gives him a $900,000 plus salary to suffer.

In Canada when the government brought in gun control (around the same time as the AWB) the various gun groups were caught flat footed and instead of focusing their efforts on defeating the legislation ended up divided in their efforts, turned on one another - the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters supported the governement with the claim that you did not need certain types of semi-autos for hunting(sound familiar) - and Canadian gun owners ended up with draconian licensing provisions, criminal penalties and registration of all long guns.

Now is not the time to even question the actions taken 18 plus years ago by the NRA. Pick the 2A organization of your choice and support it with all your strength, courage, heart and money.

Any division will be jumped on and used to divide and conquer gun owners.
