I was taken when I read an opinion piece about how the horrifying vivid impressions of a mass shooting over shadows the true "risk to life" factors of other occurrences. The article stated that to measure the deaths caused by mass shootings since Columbine, would be 210 deaths in 13 years. Using that death rate, it would take more than 300 years to equal the accidental drowning rate in the US for one (1) year. US deaths by poison, would be 150 years.

The impact of the raw horror of the recent Conn. school shooting, is beyond any imagination, and in no way would I want to diminish or belittle the loss sustained in those terrible minutes. However, our rush to pass "feel-good legislation" severely diminishing our 2nd Amendment Rights, is no answer to solving the root evilness.

Nobody seemed too concerned that 500 people were killed in Chicago last year.

Excellent point. The problem with Chicago is a.) it is a banned gun zone so it proves that banning guns does not solve gun violence, it only keeps law abiding citizens from protecting themselves and b.) the victims aren't little children. The absolute horror and tragedy of these children being massacred by an evil *** was the perfect opportunity to use the outpouring of emotion to advance the agenda. Dont think for a moment that legislation wasn't already typed up, just waiting for the perfect opportunity. The gun-haters are using the deaths of children to advance their anti-gun agenda. They have "struck while the iron is hot".
