Local newspaper posts permit Holders name and addresses

I have written my local reps on this issue before, and that was one of the points I used. While we all may want to know who's got what in our neighborhoods, we also have to respect privacy. I suggested that we would all feel a lot safer if we knew who had prescriptions to psychotropic medications, as well as any past history for mental issues. Of course I didn't get a response, but it does get to the point. Either respect peoples privacy rights, or violate rights in the name of "security".

I logged into the site provided by the NYT and found the map depicting all the name and addresses of those with gun permits. It gets better. You can use the map or switch to the satellite overview and, like Goggle Earth, get a birds eye view of the home. No wonder people are upset, not only are their names and addresses available but so is a view of their home, backyard and all. I believe this story will go viral, watch the evening news.
(and the anti-gun folks wonder why the NRA membership is growing)

The best way is to post the address of the employees of this newspaper, especially if these guys don't have guns, and then have other call them (w/o any threat) every other day and see how they feel!

Personally I'd like to see the ILLEGAL guns posted in blue dots in the poorer areas of the city. Look at the map. The MASS red line of honest registered owners starts at the Bronx border - no doubt a veiled attempt to show..."look! Poor people don't own guns why do the people with any amount of resources need them???" Lets see.... Because maybe the aforementioned blue dots are as heavily populated as the dark line of red??? Hmmmmm I wonder????

N.Y. news site stirs outrage after publishing gun owners' names - latimes.com
Using the information published by the Commercial Appeal, they found burglaries in 2009 declined 18% in the city's ZIP codes with the most concealed-carry permits and generally increased in ZIP codes with the fewest.

The researchers found no difference for violent crimes, such as assault, that often lack premeditation.

The study also suggested that, following publication of the Memphis database, burglary risk instead shifted to areas with fewer gun registrations. In fact, the study noted that the "results suggest that, despite activism on the part of gun owners against the publication of such databases, it may actually be gun permit holders who benefited" from publication.
Apparently, the presence of guns does not increase violence in areas with high ownership of carry permits, and actually lowers some crimes. If they were attempting to discredit gun owners, they failed. "Hoist by their own petard" seems accurate.

Well it has been posted on my home state gun forum NJGF that a blogger with the website" For what it's worth" blog posted the names, addresses, phone numbers, job title, email addresses and Face book profiles of all the employees at the offending newspaper. One other tid bit is the article's author has a CWP for NYC but was less than forthcoming with that bit of information.

I'm probably in the minority here but... While I think publishing the names and addresses of permit holders was an unbelievably stupid idea, we should not be publishing names and addresses of editors. Two wrongs don't make a right and we are better than them even in the face of attack. Let's not give them any more ammo to use against "the crazy gun owners". They are purposely trying to invoke rash emotional outbursts to manipulate for their cause.

My State Sen, Greg Ball (R) was just on the Cavuto show. He's introducing a Senate Bill to prohibit the public from obtaining the CCW list from any gov't agency. Greg said he has co-sponsors on the other side of the aisle. We'll see.

Ya know what, I honestly would not care if they posted my name and address of owning a gun. This would be very useful if a criminal broke in my home and I used deadly force.

a: It would be PUBLIC fair warning to criminals.

b: I would sue the newspaper for putting my family in harm way, which led to the death of the intruder.

c: I would use it in my defense, that not only did I have a sign on my door saying owner is armed, Hell it was in the Paper!

Good point.

Go after their money by creating a website of anti gun sponsor's and advertisers. Let each ad holder in the rag see their company name associated on line with this reckless act, and watch how quickly the financial support dries up...

So, if "two wrongs don't make a right", it would be wrong to defend from a deadly force attack with a firearm, RIGHT?

Perhaps we should have responded to Pearl Harbor with an offer of a hug...

The worst part about this is that the people that are saying "oh man this map is great" (other forums I visit -- not here) are equating this with journalism. I mean... Is that a joke? Are people really that stupid?

[I know the answer to the question is yes, they are.]

Yes, but let's say for the sake of argument that the very same map was to show prescription Marijuana, antidepressant, anti psychotic or amphetamine users?
Ahhh the possibilities and outcry.
