Gov. Andrew Cuomo and legislative leaders have a tentative deal to enact the nation's first gun control measure following last month's Connecticut school shooting, according to people familiar with the negotiations, further tightening gun laws in a state that already has among the nation's strictest.

7 round magazine limit, you in NY are so screwed.

Yes, the extra three rounds from their current ten round limit will surely fix things! I would assume eight round revolvers are going to be part of that ban as well. Screwed indeed. I'm waiting for the next shoe to drop in Illinois...

Chicago's mayor has a plan ready to go.

Hang On! You don't really have RIGHTS NOW, and he wants to limit them even more.

Actually, I do, as I don't live in Chicago. I don't even live in Cook County. But, if we ever do get concealed carry here, I'm pretty sure he'll do something to make it impossible to carry downtown, where it is most needed. I really feel for my brethren in Chicago. I lived downtown for thirteen years. But anyway, this thread is about NY.

The ban is on magazines, so revolvers with cylinders will be fine. Sounds like the era of wheel guns, bolts, pumps, and levers is back.

I don't have enough four letter words to describe how I feel about this. The Republicans had the majority and there are a few Dems in the northern parts of the state that are backed by the NRA that we could have held off this bill, but before I get dinged I will stop here before I express my disgust with the Senate Majority leader. I only hope we don't get the NICS check with every ammo purchase Cuomo wanted. I would hope we at least will see some of the more insane provisions like no grandfathering of guns here already, I refuse to surrender my Grandfather's Colt Woodsman, it has been here since 1950 and will not go anywhere anytime soon. I have to buy a second mag and have it welded to take seven rounds than so be it. I think as I told the wife I am going to start looking at real estate across the line in Vermont. I refuse to live as a subject and pay the high taxes to do so any longer.

Who is the clown that came up with that magic number? Not even my Mossberg 500 would qualify with that type of restriction. I hope the gun owners of NY overwhelm them with phone calls galore.

Every time there has been a leak or word of an agreement or an outline or whatever, the calls, letters, and emails have been blasted out, and 48 hours later there is a new leak with even less restriction put on. Keep the pressure on them!

I've only heard back from one representative regardless of the amount of phone calls and emails I've sent out, a former Marine and my local assemblyman who agreed the problems are not guns, it is people, and he would not give up our freedoms. The rest of them refuse to come out from under their rock and face the people they're supposed to be serving.

Until people start voting with their feet, politicians will not listen. In fact, the purpose of having a republic is that it creates competition OF governments. The free market principles apply to government just like they do to cars, air travel or any other good or service. By definition, the institution of government is a service. People collectively allocate to government certain functions. In a Republic, when one government gets to be unbearable, the people have the right to vote with their feet and move to another state. When states loose people, they loose revenue and business. It is that simple.

If the idea is to keep all the Fudds happy that should do it.

This is how it is done:

People familiar with closed-door negotiations told The Associated Press a tentative deal was struck over the weekend.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the proposal had not been discussed among rank and file legislators. They say the tentative deal will be debated behind closed doors Monday in the Senate and the Democrat-led Assembly and could be sent to the floor for a vote Monday.

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Look on the positive side. At least Cuomo isn't putting any restrictions on casinos. I believe the phrase we're looking for is "Political Opportunist".

I hear ya Dave....I wish I had the answer but I hope enough of us value our freedom and second amemdment enough to say enough is enough...shall not be infringed means what it says....If we lose our freedom and second ammendment it will only be because we lack the back bone to organize and stand up to politicions that are trying to destroy our second amendment and take our freedom. Passing a law is one thing...taking our freedom will not be easy to do if we have the backbone to just refuse to be pushed any farther. All citizens need to support each other regardless what state we are from....your freedom is as important to me as mine...if you lose yours, I stand to lose mine also the same way. We need to stand as one "We the People will not give up our freedom" If you can be limited to 7 rounds...you can be imited to 0 rounds...its unacceptable and infringes on our second amendment. We need to all stand with the people in NY as one voice and support the NRA that can fight the political and legal fight....."We the People are the sleeping giant" They can not take what we will not give. Making a law that is unconstitutional is one thing....enforcing it is another....many took an oath to protect and defend the constitution and if we lose this...we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I still have friends and family up there and this is really sad. All of the 1994 bans were already still in effect in NYS as it was and now to take it further - for absolutely no "good or logical" reason is rediculus. I know that the cities have a stranglehold on the rest of the state but I also know that there is no where near 100% voter turn out in the upstate region. Maybe this will finally get the fence sitters off there back side to participate and bring some sanity back to the state.

According to WRGB Albany Channel 6 the Cuomo bill has wide bipartisan support and is being voted on right now. It has passed the NYS Assembly and is being rushed to the Senate for a vote.
