I know VT has become much more liberal in recent decades. Does anyone who's up there and has some idea of the legislature's make up have any idea if this could actually gain some traction?
Long story, long, wealthy New York and CT. folks (for lack of a better word, 'liberals,' well I don't want to get political, so let's use a non-incenderary word; "yo-yos"), and their ilk, have been buying vacation properties up in Vermont for decades. They love the beauty, clean air and water, low crime, lifestyle, and decent people that live there. They start off as occasional vacationers, then weekenders, then they want to stay/retire there.
The problem is, they want it to be just like where they came from. They bring the city problems, attitudes, and predjudices with them. Sadly, they will ultimately destroy what brought them there to begin with. They don't understand that it's such a clean, crime free, decent area because the morality of the people living there is 90 degrees opposite from where they came from! The same thing is happening in New Hampshire (with Boston/RI. area "yo-yos"), and Maine (again with Boston area "yo-yos"). Believe me the locals hate it, but are powerless to keep things the same. Sound familiar? This is a microcosm of our country as a whole...
They do not understand the 'country way;' the small town values, independance, work ethic, and self-reliance that people in Northern New England have had for generations. Many people in the South think that everyone 'up North' are the same, because they know about the big cities, but they are wrong. Northern New England is very similar to the South, in a lot of ways... Just as upstate New Yorkers are very similar to Northern New Englanders.
The New Yorkers/city immigrants will make Vermont the trash can/sewer from whence they came from (sorry New York City folks, but IMO that place sucks). They have the money, they will get the power. As for gun control in in VT., most city folk from New York and Boston have never even held a gun, or seen one in person, why do you think they'll want to let folks have them in Vermont when they start getting involved in the politics/power up there...? They're scared little mice, trained to fear these things.
This type of immigration really tips the scales culturally, kind of like we have seen with the massive influx of south-of-the border and Caribbean islands folks that swampled into this country. The state of Vermont is evolving into a whole other animal, just like the rest of the USA... Get used to it, it's the evolution of things, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
This whole "gun control," push is just a slow-roll to where they truly want things, gun confiscation. You are very naive if you believe otherwise. That is the goal, no guns in the hands of law abiding citizens. They just need time to indoctrinate the message. They, via the media, will vilify, marginalize, and demonize anybody, or anything, that supports 2A/guns.
Same thing that happened with the so-called political correctness, and all that has created. "Hate words," really?! (hello second grade), "Un-documented" citizen, really?! "Alternative Lifestyle," no thanks, I'm all set! God, look what they did to one of the candidates in the last POTUS election. A very decent, moral man, turned into the son of satan. These tactics work.
