was unprepared and it almost cost me

I looked in the car for something to use, but the only thing I had was my cell phone and my 7-11 double gulp of MT Dew. 64 oz of ice and soda, I grabbed it and as he came forward threw it open end first into his face. This caused him to back up, and he tripped and fall over onto his back. Others hearing him fall, came out and restrained him.

You guys are missing a key point here....

Cuda Man's only defense weapon was the very thing Bloomberg has banned in New York City: Sodas over 20 ounces!

This story goes to show that there is a justifiable reason to purchase and carry large fountain drinks.

California is a beautifull state with some of everything in it. If people have never traveled much of, or at all in california they are sure to have a mistaken idea of what it really is. I used to be able probley drive you right to a huge percentage of the scenes in movies and tv shows. Thats a tiny fraction of what california is. It has huge open desserts and a lot of high green remote mountain areas too. The entire state is controlled by the three citys full of libs. When I was there the vast majority of the people I rubbed shoulders with were close to as conservative as I am. Guys like me done our careers there and retire elsewhere. I had a friend that was out shooting and pulled into a fast food for a burger afterward. The window girl noticed he had a .45 laying on the seat. She hit the panic button and he was pulled over and got 3 or 4 free nights in the crossbar hotel. The "wrong" type officer stopped him. He was driveing a van. The gun was unloaded. On a technality he was arrested as he had ammo also in the back of the van. Ammo and gun is suppose to be seperated. Hard to do in a van with no trunk!
Could be the officer didnt like fat people. Rick was around 4 spins on the scale. Whatever. There is so many laws that if someone really wants to write you something can be found even if you work at obeying the laws to the best of your ability.
If a straight person uses his head and has the right demeaner, usualy but not always, it will cover a mulitude of sins. Thats how some of us survived 40 years of california.

i think maybe the guy was trying to help you ,maybe like some dogs he was able to sense the cancer and his instincts made him act trying to remove the diseased tissue... the guy had the instincts of a brilliant intuitive surgeon ,unfortunatley he never got the training he needed.
its like a blue heeler pup running the horses ,that b.s. will get you shot but its driven by instinct with a little training that heeler is doing most of the herding and actually helping the horses.
hope you recover fully that guy may have saved your life in trying to end it.
keep your eyes open, idiots rarely travel alone.
women make men crazy

In a knife fight distance is your friend. I don't care if you had to seriously bugger the car, you should have popped the clutch and hit the gas to get space rather than exit the car to engage in a knife fight armed with a soda. Whether the car only gets you distance or whether you can run the *** down, stay with the car and use it to run / fight unless you can't do either with it.

Same is true when guns come out. If you can drive off from the fight, do so. If you can run down the guy shooting at you on the way out, you're probably justified. That assumes that you aren't detouring around for another run trying to get him.

As an aside being around cars is the reason for a hi-cap 9mm. When I travel there is one within reach even though for carry I prefer a revolver. A 9mm semi is a lot easier to shoot with one hand while you drive with the other. With it being a hi-cap, you have probably driven out of range before you empty the first magazine. Try a one hand mag change while driving hard.

Finally, Cuda, find another lady friend. There is something very, very wrong about what happened. That sure smells like a set up to me. Whether she was trying to get you out of the picture for some reason or trying to get her Ex sent up for a bunch of years for attacking you, something is really wrong.

Of course it could just be a chick that wants to see two guys bleed over who gets her. That is a woman you really want to avoid. Been there done that. Worse whipping I ever took winning a fight happened when a cheerleader that I was hot for got me to box a guy who was a foot taller and 100 lbs heavier than I was at the time. I was laughing at the guy and making fun of him picking on little ole me while he was trying to goad me into boxing him. I turned around and looked at her and she said "why won't you box him" and that was all it took for me to stick my hands in the gloves. I swear to God that she licked her lips when she said that. I got knocked down 6 times before I got inside close enough to hit the guy. At that point I cheated and the worm turned. Anyway when I was down in the lockers with the coach working on my face, here comes Susie Cheerleader about as heated up as I had been when I stuck my hands in the gloves and got out on the floor with that big ***. If the coach hadn't been there I think she would have done it in the boy's locker room. It was so obvious what had happened, the coach started laughing his backside off. He hadn't seen the first part of it as he had only come out of his office after I was kicking the **** out of the schools star basketball player (Like I said, I cheated.) but apparently it was that obvious. Coach had a long serious talk with me about women the next day. Luckily I learned my lesson early on. I've seen other guys that didn't. Just last week one of my clients got cut pretty badly "protecting" his ex-wife from her new Aryan Brotherhood boyfriend. She had called him to come get the kids because she and her new boyfriend were fighting. He got there and when his daughter opened the door boyfriend was struggling with his ex-wife. He intervened but didn't see the knife in the guy's hand until after he had been cut once. Got it on the left arm, left leg, gut and back. Fortunately the guy didn't have much of a knife so no damage that required more than superficial stitches. Client pressed charges but ex-wife is now trying to defend AB boyfriend rather than get away from him. Go figure.

I think so too

First, very glad you are going to be okay.

Second, you were SET UP by your so-called "friend." Trust the local authorities will file appropriate charges against her, too.

Why do I suggest this was planned? Was there no water at the house? Why didn't the "friend" and designated driver simply depart when your "friend" was so drunk? I could go on...

Again, happy the outcome was not worse.

Be safe.

I'm also pretty sure that the 'friend' just wanted to shake her husband up or something and used you to do it. Her acting 'cute' almost got you even more seriously hurt. Glad you made it out of there.

Cuda, glad you weren't hurt more seriously.

To echo what others have said, also glad you realize your mistakes. To put yourself in danger over a girl that knowingly stuck with a guy that had a knife and was willing to use it doesn't say much for her. You don't need friends like that. Ditch the *****.

And if a firearm wasn't a possibility, pepper spray or a tazer would have been nice.;)

read .. re read and read it again ....
Now Im glad your still on this side of the turf and that the incident may have saved you from cancer ... but dude. a chick calls you to help her out at a party .. shes drunk, but has a devastated driver so her bases are covered for the most part ... exactly why did she need you here? I don't understand the nature of her emergency

dude ... thank you .. seriously.
I havn't had a good honest laugh in months

There are just a few women out there that thrive on excitement and seeing guys fight over them. I have met a couple myself. They are good manipulators too. They usualy are sexy and dark haired in my experiance.
They always have problems and baggage.

I was always told "rush a gun run fron a knife" That said I hope you make a complete recovery from the wounds and the cancer.

Distance is the key, I rushed a gun once and a knife twice. I've run from a gun due to too much distance between us.

No, I don't have any wounds and they did not realize how much pain can really hurt.

Cudamank,

Glad to hear you made it out of a bad situation. Hopefully this animal gets caged and your health and finances recover quickly.

I have no special training or knowledge regarding being ambushed with a knife. So I don't have any comment in that regard. But we both enjoy shooting and S&W and so I wish you a speedy recovery so you can get back to the people and things that you enjoy.

Regards,

So, it looks like you're in California, so am I. Be careful, Mr. Knife will probably be walking sooner than you might think.

FWIW: I would not have left the house, but then again I don't have any "friends" that would get themselves into such a situation requiring them to make such a call, let alone actually making such a call to me. You might want to reconsider your circle of "friends." Don't dwell on needing tactical advice, but rather think long and hard (big-picture-wise) about where you go from here.

P.S. - Good luck with the cancer, the big "C" can be a real like changer.

Because its california! Its next to impossable to get a ccw. Maybe if your a movie star. Sorry for answering for him.

In this state it's up to the County Sheriff. In San Diego we have Bill Gore. You may have heard of him. He's a political animal and rabidly anti gun. Unless you're a $$$ contributer or right wing radio talk show host San Diego is a "HA HA fat chance" of issue county.

Appreciate any thoughts you all have.

If it was me, I'd be putting a giant checkmark in the win column. You lived, learned and got the drop on one of the silent killer cancers. And this is coming from a glass is half full, plan for the worse/hope for best type of person.

After this is all over, and you're thinking of the consequences, you'll probably get a few medical bills to make your day. If the ex has dough or a job, consider suing him. Talk to an injury attorney and see if there is a case (depends on your state's law). These cases are handled on the contingent fee system - where you don't pay anything up front or hourly, but the lawyer receives a % of the settlement. If no settlement, no fee. You may still get the last laugh by taking him to court and the cleaners.

Get and carry a gun. If you'd had a gun you would have still taken the initial stab to the shoulder but form that point on things would have gone a LOT differently. They would have gone your way. You would not have been stabbed in the stomach and he'd be in the ground where he belongs instead of in jail soakin' up the taxpayers money.

Glad you came out ok and best wishes on your cancer recovery...
Good info provided regarding self defense etc..
