Hello,

I just purchased 5 Pro Mag SMI-19 10rd long mags from Tactical Vantage. I saw in another thread that there is a way to convert these to a 32rd mag. Does anyone have experience or know where I can find the info on how to do this?

Thanks!

I never messed w/ those before, but take off the floor plate and see if there is a pin up there. If there is, tap that puppy out.

If not, you're on your own. I take ZERO responsibility if you destroy your mag. ;)

I found some info on them but no pics of the process. They don't have pins like the S&W mags, they have a plastic piece that limits the mags to 10. That piece has to be trimmed down but I am just not exactly sure how.

Just did this. Sorry, no pics. Take the floor plate off and the retainer and spring will pop out. The follower will be the only thing left in the mag. You can remove the load assist button at the bottom of the mag where the round hole is. When you remove that the follower will slide out. Trim(cut) the long slide to about 1 to 1 1/2 inches and round off. If you have the 32 rounder, you can use it as a guide. I use a belt sander to round off but sand paper would do just as well. reassemble and you have a 32 rounder. I can try to get you some pics but won't be until tomorrow. Total process took me about 5 minutes.

Thanks Pagan! I will give this a shot when they come in!

Just converted my 10 rounder, just as easy as Pagan described. I have a 32 round slide that I used to determine the cut length, about an inch works. All loaded up and will try it out this weekend.

Thanks for the update! I don't have another 32rd mag to use as a template. I'll have to wing it.

Ditto what Pagan said- I just did this with two of them. I used a scroll saw to cut the slide down to size, rounded. Palm sander to clean them up a tad. Works perfect. Not sure in the gun yet how they will function but from what I can tell these mags are very close to the S&W version.

Could you post some pics? How far up did you make your cut?

If anyone could please just measure and post the length of the final altered follower that would be helpful to those of us who don't have a 32 rounder to compare.

Thank You

Great idea! My 10 rounds will be here tomorrow but I don't know when the 32 round will be in. If I get them before someone posts a measurement I will.

I cut mine roughly 1.25 to 1.5 inches. Don't do much less than 1.25 as the load assist button will be able to slide out of the bottom when fully compressed.

Thank You. Knowing the measurement on the production 32 rounder would give the best result.

Just got my 2 10 rounders in tonight. I cut the first one down to just over 1.5 inches and was able to get in 31 rounds.

EDIT

**I can confirm the magic number is 1.25" from the bottom of the follower. This will give you a 32 round magazine.**

I didn't have a scroll saw so I made a mark at 1.25" and took some wire snips and slowly cut in from the edges. Then I sanded it down to make it smooth and then reassembled. Pretty easy to do.

If you have any questions let me know.

i checked my mag when i got home and it is exactly 1.25" from the bottom of the follower to the longest point of the rounded end. It is very close to being able to push the load assist through the hole when fully compressed. I would recommend not cutting it less than 1.25".

Sorry for the grainy photo, but as you can see, the 32 round follower spacer is about a half inch long. This is the length that I used for my 10 rounder modification.
