ProMag 10rd Long Mag Conversion Help....

My 5 were delivered today at 1:39pm! I can't wait to get home and check them out. I am off tomorrow so I see myself making a few mods! I am selling one to a Member on the Forum here for what they cost and will modify the other 4 for my own use.

I haven't posted it yet because the few times I mention it no 1 to look like they were interested. If there's interest I'll do it.

Blasted from my Samsung Galaxy SIII (CM10.1 Masta Mix).

Well, here is a pic of the follower after cutting it down. I cut the factory rounded end off to use as a template. I then measure the new length of 1 3/8" and traced the outline of the rounded edge. Using a scroll saw, I cut the follower to the finished length. I then used 220, 320 grit sandpaper and steel wool to smooth out any burrs. I think it came out great! Reassembled the mag and i'm going to see how many rounds it takes.

32rds perfectly staggered. Took all of 10 mins but that's only because I didn't have everything at hand. Had to run around the house to get things together LOL

Very much appreciate this post and the replies. I have five of the 10 rd. ProMags due in today from Tactical Advantage. I am planning to do a tabectomy on each of the magazines this evening! From the directions given above, I do think that even someone as tool challenged as myself can get the job done.

Looks great.

I tested my 12 mags at the range this past weekend and they all worked great for bolt hold open functionality. I had to cut the bolt release actuation tab a touch shorter than I had it, but got them all tweaked in and feeding every single round from the mag before locking back.

The mags all fed, although I did have two double feeds and two instances of the rounds not being pushed up (stuck down). I think it was due to loading (not getting the rounds pushed back fully when loading) moreso than the mags themselves, because at all other times the mags fed perfectly.

They were tested doing fast movement and position drills for 3gun and went through hundreds of rounds.

I only did 1 so far. I want to run a few rounds through it before I hack up the other mags. I'm sure it'll be fine based on the reviews I've read from all the other posts on the mods.

Very happily a nice big brown box from Tactical Advantage was waiting on the door step when I returned home. I must say TA does an excellent job of packaging. All five magazines were in perfect condition.

In preparation for converting these 10 rd. magazines to 32 rd. capacity I rounded up a pair of wire cutters, a carpenters square, a small phillips head screw driver and a large mill ******* file. Then I proceeded to the actual conversion.

Dismantling was very simple. It was as simple as depressing two little pins in turn as the floor plate was slid forward. The tab and spring were easily removed. Pushing the loading tab out and removing the follower was simplicity itself.

I cut off about 1.75 inches of the tail of the tab that extends from the follower. I trimmed this to the 1.5 inches I'd seen recommended in other posts. I then used this little jury-rigged part as a jig for cutting the tab on the follower. It was an extremely simple matter to clip the tab slightly proud of the scribed mark using the wire cutters. I then cleaned up the cut and finished everything using the file. The little bits of fuzz were easily removed leaving a clean nicely finished part.

I installed the follower with the modified tab and then reassembled the magazine. I then decided that since it would disturb the neighbors, I'd hand cycle some ammunition from the modified magazine through the rifle rather than simply stepping out in the back yard and blasting off a magazine load of ammo.

Given the reputation of Remington Golden 22's, I figured to use that ammo thinking that if that stuff would feed then perhaps I could consider the magazine conversion a success. On my first effort, I could only load 31 rounds. Thankfully the magazine feed perfectly. I then disassembled the magazine and used the file to remove just a bit more stock from the follower tab. When reassembled, the magazine would easily hold 32 rounds. When loaded and hand cycled, feeding has been impeccable. If there is any way possible I intend to take this rifle out in the woods or to the indoor pistol range hopefully not later than Thursday. I'll all of course depend on how much I can get done in hospital visitation, etc. Then I'll get to see the proof of my handiwork!
