Lower cleaning

I normally soak mine with CLP for a few minutes and then blow it out with a air jet attachment for my compressor, keeping the outside wrapped in a towel to avoid getting the solution all over everything. Works for me.

I use those cans of compressed air for cleaning key boards, and the cleaner of your choice with Q-tips. Works well.

I would stay away from rem oil. I've had good luck with M7 and break free CLP.

My can is from Safariland...likely bought at Cabelas. It comes out a little bit foamy and doesn't run all over the place. Not familiar with Remoil, unless you're talking about Remington oil, which I believe would be for lubrication, but not cleaning.

Some of those cans of air contain chemicals that can corrode metal. Be sure to read the ingredients and any warnings before spraying.

non chlorinated brake cleaner, spray lower internals, then hit with air compressor. one quick spray of RemOil on the trigger group is all the lower gets on all the AR's. once a year i may take the buffer tube out of the 'real' ones and clean.
the hottest water you can get out of the tap works also! way back 30 years ago in Basic the line to the wash tub after a range session was quite long! just gotta ensure it is dry before putting it up.

Hm, why use brake cleaner? I've heard of this method before, but have never cared to research more into it.

Compressed air, from a compressor and not canned, and nothing else for normal cleaning. At 5k and 10k I did spray a very light coat of CLP and then blew it out. 90 lbs of pressure works fine for me.
FWIW, I never put RemOil on my firearms. Too many better products.

With the exception of the FCG and the bolt latch, there's nothing in the lower that affects functioning and there's no reason it has to be spotless. "Detail cleaning" more than every few thousand rounds isn't necessary, unless cleaning turn you on.

I always wondered this as well. I just got my 15-22 and took it to the range once and shot about 300+ rounds. Cleaned it that night from a video on youtube. took the bolt assembly out and cleaned all that, ran the bore snake through it once and tried to clean as much as I could with Remoil as the can stated it was a cleaner/lubricator.
I've seen some vidoes where people really go to town and clean pretty much EVERYTHING and talk about putting CLP or some kind of lube in certain spots/parts. I didn't want to mess with the lower parts since i'm not really familiar with its workings yet and didn't wanna mess things up.
So you're saying anything in the lower really doesn't need much attention as a light cleaning/air spray should do the trick?
At what point should I need to take out the trigger assembly and all that stuff from the lower to really clean/lube it?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. And RemOil is not a cleaner. It's not even all that good a lubricant.
Unless there is some particular problem or malfunction, there's no need to remove the FCG at all. Spray with CLP and blow it out with an air compressor every few thousand rounds.

Great thanks. So what is the preferred brand of CLP for the 15-22 or does it really matter? I've seen gels, sprays and pastes.

As far as I am concerned, take your choice. I prefer the foam spray from BreakFree.
BTW, the easiest way to clean the BCG channel in the upper is to use a baby bottle brush.

I usually use an old toothbrush, frog lube, sometimes a little canned air, good quality paper towels that don't leave junk behind.
