Colt to Relocate???

Interesting.

It sucks like mad for all the Colt employees. This place has been run by generations of workers living in and around the same area. Colt shares a long, rich, and very important story with the US and with CT.

Sooner or later they'll need to quit dodging all the new "we gotta do something" laws and move to TX, or TN, or someplace more friendly to their business.

To their business, and their 1.something billion American dollars (sic) that they spread around each year.

I've said it before, it's only a matter of time that firearm manufacturers will make that move; just off the cuff, I'm thinking Illinois, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, et al will bear witness to this. Simple lesson here, you just have to be very carefull who you all put in charge of your state; if you voted these lunatics in, or didn't participate in the process, then don't come 'a whinin' to me.

Yes but, but, but . . . New York Congressman Charlie Rangel said millions of kids are being killed by assault weapons;

"We’re talking about millions of kids dying — being shot down by assault weapons, were talking about handguns easier in the inner cities, to get these guns in the inner cities, than to get computers. . . . " Congressman Charlie Rangel

Unfortuantely, the low information voters, i.e., the takers in our society, believe this stuff when in fact according to the 2010 numbers a total of 8,583 of ALL AGES were killed in homocides from all causes, including all guns.

I don't blame the manufacturers for wanting to clear out of places like New England.

I'm not an expert in politics or economics but...............

Politicians campaign on telling people what they want to hear. And then after elected function on personal ideology whether it meets their constiuents wants/needs or not.

I don't know how much it costs a company such as Colt, Remington, or S&W and etc. to move their operation but I suspect it ain't cheap or easy. I'm a person who enjoys history and the legacy of people and companies but I would love to see those gun related companies move their operations out of the blue states and to somewhere they are welcomed to operate freely.

If I lived in a state that had unemployment problems and my representatives were going to do something to force higher unemployment I would be banging on someone's door demanding them to stop it. Yes the tragedies that occurred were terrible and sad, but cutting your nose off to spite your face is stupid.

I think the writing is already on the wall. Not a question of "if", but "when." Back in December of 2011, Colt made the announcement that they were going to be breaking ground in Florida and building another manufacturing facility. It will be smaller but there is plenty of land/room to expand. The state of Florida granted them $1.5 million in incentives and not to mention a great opportunity to do business in a right-to-work state (as currently their employees in Conn. belong to a union and are under contract.) The facility should be opening their doors in late 2014. I’m excited about this and believe it will allow Colt to expand in ways they could not before. I know a few people in that area and there’s been rumor a range will be coming as well.

Colt to Open New Facility > Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC

I just hope that they maintain an office address in Hartford so their roll markings stay the same. I also hope that if they relocate to a more gun friendly State that they bring some of the higher skilled employees with them so they do not have a disaster as Marlin did when they moved.

Even though Colt does not produce the volume anywhere close to Smith, Ruger, Glock, etc. the quality of their products and their refinishing operation has never been higher. Their 1911's and SAA are just beautiful and they shoot like a dream as compared to 30 years ago!

Well, we've got a vacant drawers factory ( old Fruit of the Loom) located on the southernmost main east west rail line in the United States. The city has been trying to sell it for years and I'd much rather have Colt buy it than Bruce Foods. What would really rock is a beer distributorship but I gave up on that a while back.

Y'all are makin' me jealous. There is no way no how any of them would move to Warshinton...not a real business friendly environment particularly with the new guy down in Olytown....

I hope they do move. This is still a free country (for now)... if you don't like how your state is, vote with your feet!

They all need to move to a "Right To Work" state, like the great Commonwealth of Virginia.

He also said "being killed by automatic weapons" yesterday. I haven't heard of a single death by an automatic weapon. Just goes to show they have no idea of what they are trying to ban OR have a good idea, realize it's not working, so they start using terms like "automatic weapons" to garner more support.

They have a building right near by, even has a blue "Colt" awning over the entryway. No sign of activity and the local politicians are wanting some. Joe
